Breaking the Cycle of Addiction (3 credits)

Matricularme Introduction: Almost 21 million Americans have at least one addiction, yet only 10% of them receive treatment. Drug overdose deaths have more than tripled since 1990. From 1999 to 2017, more than 700,000 Americans died from overdosing on a drug. Alcohol and drug addiction cost the U.S. economy over $600 billion every year. Source
Breaking the Cycle of Addiction focuses on how to do ministry to those who are in that struggle. Dr. Mark Vander Meer presents this practical course to help you minister more effectively!
Overview: This course teaches you how to help others break the cycle of addiction.
Course Outcomes:
- Learn the characteristics of addictions and the types of addiction.
- Understand the theological issues related to addiction.
- Understand your role in communicating the impact of addiction in communities.
- Develop your ministry approach suited to your ministry leadership.
- Learn about the Twelve Step program and its application in your ministry.

Assignments: View all online lectures and read all the articles on each topic. CLI computer tracks whether you do this. After viewing all lectures for the unit, take the quiz based on the unit's provided resources (100% of grade).
Grading Scale:
A 95-100% A- 90-94% B+ 87-89% B 83-86% B- 80-82% C+ 77-79% C 73-76% C- 70-72% D+ 67-69% D 63-66% D- 60-62% F 0-59%
Your average for the course must be at least 60%. Otherwise, you will fail the class and will receive no credit.Deadline: You have 180 days to finish the course. Complete all assignments before the final deadline, or you will be automatically unenrolled, and all coursework will be removed. You will have to start over and retake the class to receive credit.
