    Legacy and Plateaued Church Revitalization is a practical guide for pastors, church leaders, elders, deacons, church boards, ministry teams, CLI students, and CLA leaders who care about churches that have become plateaued, discouraged, under-led, or stuck.

    Many churches do not need to close. They need renewal.

    Some churches are legacy churches with a faithful history but declining energy. Some are small rural or country churches that need trained volunteer or part-time ministers. Some have experienced conflict, scandal, leadership fatigue, or loss of trust. Some have buildings, memories, and faithful members, but no clear pathway for the next generation of ministry.

    This course helps churches ask: “How can God renew this church and raise up faithful leaders for a new season of ministry?”

    From Plateau to Renewal

    A plateaued church may still have deep spiritual roots. A legacy church may still have buildings, relationships, community memory, and faithful believers who love Christ. But without renewed leadership, clear ministry roles, and a practical plan, the church can slowly drift into maintenance mode.

    The goal is not to erase the church’s history. The goal is to honor what God has done, discern what needs healing, train new leaders, and help the church become fruitful again.

    Course Description

    Legacy and Plateaued Church Revitalization with the CLI/CLA Ecosystem equips pastors, church leaders, elders, deacons, ministry teams, CLI students, and CLA leaders to help struggling or plateaued churches rediscover mission, rebuild trust, train leaders, and develop practical ministry pathways.

    Students will explore common causes of church plateau, including pastoral overload, aging leadership, conflict, scandal, unclear mission, lack of volunteer development, weak discipleship pathways, and resistance to change.

    Students will also learn how Christian Leaders Institute and Christian Leaders Alliance can support church revitalization by helping churches identify faithful and teachable people, create local training hubs, develop volunteer and part-time ministry leaders, support study-based ordination, and commission leaders for real ministry service.

    Course Requirements

    • Required: View all video lectures and complete assigned readings.
    • Quizzes: Open-book • 75-minute time limit • 2 attempts total.
    • Passing Requirement: 60% minimum average.
    • Deadline: 180 days from enrollment.
    • If not completed, you will be unenrolled and must restart the course to receive credit.
