Christian Financial Stewardship and Enterprise (3 credits)Professor Steve ElzingaAdditional Materials by: Seth Godin, David Brooks, Malcolm Gladwell, Rick Warren, Billy Graham, Ernesto SirolliNeed help: CLI Help Desk (helpdesk@christianleaders.netOverviewThis class explores key principles for handling finances and for starting, managing, and marketing a sustainable enterprise. It may be especially helpful for bi-vocational leaders who minister while earning income by other means.
This class is inspired by the Apostle Paul. He believed that pastors deserved to be paid, but he himself ministered without payment and earned his income in business. Paul is a model for many bi-vocational leaders. He wrote, "If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me. What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make use of my rights in preaching it" (1 Corinthians 9:17-18). You may be seeking to be like Paul and minister free of charge. This class will help prepare you for a sustainable enterprise.
Outcomes:
1. Learn the basics of starting a business/enterprise endeavor
2. Understand concepts of finance and money management for enterprises
3. Learn basics of managing and marketing an enterprise
Required Assignments
2. Take the online quiz for each unit. You will have 75 minutes to answer 20 multiple-choice questions for each quiz. Each quiz covers the readings and video lectures for that unit. Once a quiz has started, you must finish it, and you cannot retake it.
1. View all online lectures and read all articles on each topic. Active engagement with course materials prior to attempting the quiz is required for each unit. If a resource is provided in multiple formats, simply choose whichever format best supports your learning. CLI’s system tracks your viewing history to determine meaningful engagement. The use of AI tools, search engines, other websites, or assistance from other individuals is prohibited.
Quizzes are open-note. You may reference your own notes or any of the provided CLI course materials during the quiz. However, you should plan to study materials prior to attempting the quiz.
Quiz Tip: First answer the questions you know. Then use your own notes or the provided CLI course materials to help answer any questions you are unsure about.
3. At the end of the course, you will be invited to complete a brief Course Feedback Survey. Your feedback helps CLI evaluate the course and identify opportunities for improvement.

The forum is intended primarily for peer discussion and may not receive an immediate response. Questions or concerns requiring timely assistance should be directed to the Help Desk at helpdesk@christianleaders.net.
