Your Next Step Toward Licensed Chaplain Ordination
Welcome to the Chaplain Foundations Bridge Link. This page connects you to the official Chaplain Foundations Course, the required foundational course for the Licensed Chaplain ordination pathway through the Christian Leaders Alliance. If you sense a calling to chaplain ministry, this is an important place to begin.
The Chaplain Foundations Course introduces the biblical identity, public role, spiritual posture, and practical ministry work of a Christian chaplain. It prepares students to serve in real-life settings with grace, wisdom, prayer, Scripture, discernment, relational care, and the peace-filled presence of Christ.
This is more than a course to complete. It is a foundation for a life of ministry.
Why This Course Matters
The Chaplain Foundations Course is the required starting point for those pursuing Licensed Chaplain ordination. It also opens the door to future specialized chaplain ordination pathways, including areas such as hospital chaplaincy, corrections chaplaincy, hospice chaplaincy, digital chaplaincy, truck chaplaincy, police chaplaincy, fire and EMS chaplaincy, nursing home chaplaincy, and more.
For some students, this course also becomes the next step beyond officiant ministry. For example, those already serving in funeral ministry may use this course as part of the pathway toward becoming a Licensed Chaplain.
Learn from Experienced Chaplain Leaders
The Chaplain Foundations Course is taught by leaders who bring both biblical conviction and real-world chaplaincy experience.
Featured Leader: Rev. Tom WalcottRev. Tom Walcott brings extraordinary chaplain leadership experience to this course.
He served as Chaplain of the United States Coast Guard, where he was installed in 2017 as the 11th Chaplain of the Coast Guard. His ministry background also includes service as a missionary in the Dominican Republic and as a pastor in Jacksonville, Florida before entering senior military chaplaincy leadership.
Over the course of his chaplain ministry, Rev. Walcott served in significant leadership roles, including Force and Fleet Chaplain for U.S. Naval Forces Central Command / U.S. Fifth Fleet, as well as other major Coast Guard chaplain assignments. His ministry experience has included service in high-pressure and crisis-related settings, including support connected to Ground Zero after 9/11 and disaster relief following the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia.
After retiring in 2022, Rev. Walcott continued his chaplain service and remains active in supporting chaplaincy formation. He is also connected with Christian Leaders Institute, where he contributes to chaplain training and helps equip the next generation of chaplains through courses such as Chaplain Foundations.
Students who enter this course are learning from a chaplain leader whose life reflects public trust, ministry depth, crisis experience, missionary service, pastoral leadership, and long-term faithfulness.
What You Will Gain
