This course focuses on living according to God's pattern for us. We study biblical commands and their wise application to various life situations. We examine historical and cultural changes that challenge biblical standards of right and wrong. We expose demonic strategies of temptation and learn about spiritual warfare. We seek ways to express the Christ-life within us by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.Outcomes:
1. Learn how to love God and neighbor by following Christ in the Spirit’s power.
2. Learn specifics of godly conduct taught in the Ten Commandments and other Scriptures.
3. Apply biblical ethics to various contemporary situations.
4. Understand some historical and philosophical trends that have shaped ethics.
5. Grow in awareness of spiritual warfare and learn how Spirit-filled believers put on the armor of God and triumph over the devil, the world, and the flesh.
Assignments
1. Read all online articles and book excerpts.
2. Watch online video lectures for each unit. In addition to videos from Dr. David Feddes, you will see Dr. Francis Schaeffer's classic series "How Should We Then Live?" These ten videos show the contrast between living by biblical truth and unbiblical developments in history and culture.
3. Memorize key Bible passages: Exodus 20:1-17 (Ten Commandments), Matthew 22:37-40 (Jesus' statement of the two greatest commands), Galatians 5:22-23 (fruit of the Spirit), and Ephesians 6:10-11 (armor of God). Treasuring these passages in your heart will guide you in God's will and strengthen you against Satan's schemes. All Christian leaders should know these passages by heart. In unit 12 you will report on how much you have memorized. Bible memory counts for 20 points toward your grade for this class.
4. Use the discussion forum to ask questions and exchange ideas with others.
5. Take the online quiz for each unit. Quizzes will allow for two attempts. The average of these two attempts will be your final grade for the given quiz.Important note: Once all course quizzes have been taken AND the final feedback quiz has been completed, you will receive a final grade for the course, which will be recorded on your transcript. If a course allows more than one attempt, but you've completed at least one-attempt on each quiz and submitted the final feedback thus receiving a final grade, you will not be able to update that final grade by attempting a quiz again afterward. Once your final grade is recorded on your transcript, it will not be updated based on additional quiz attempts.
