Bible Study Session 30: Going on the Offense - The Personal Battle

Welcome & Introduction Welcome back! This is session 30 of our Spiritual Warfare course. You are nearing the end—only six more sessions left. Today, we shift our focus to one of the most critical aspects of spiritual warfare: the personal battle.

We’ve talked about Jesus, the disciples, Paul, and Barnabas—now it’s your turn. It’s time to reflect on your own battle with the enemy.

Let’s begin with a quote from Michael Voris, who resigned from Church Militant, saying, “I need to conquer these demons.” That phrase captures today’s theme well. We all face personal struggles, and often those struggles reveal the enemy’s foothold in our lives.

Scripture Focus

  • James 4:7 (WEB) – “Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

1. Understanding the Scale of Demonic Influence

From Chip Ingram’s work, we reflect on six levels of demonic influence:

  1. Opposition – All believers experience this.

  2. Influence – The enemy starts affecting thoughts and behaviors.

  3. Oppression – A heaviness or restriction in freedom.

  4. Obsession – Consuming sinful thoughts or desires.

  5. Control – Specific behaviors dominated by evil.

  6. Possession – Total spiritual captivity (rare in true believers).

This study focuses on the first three levels, where many of us live.

2. Steps to Personal Freedom

These steps are biblical, actionable, and powerful.

Step 1: Accept Christ as Savior and Lord

  • Salvation is the starting point.

  • But Lordship is the key: Jesus is not just our Savior but our Commander.

  • Invite Jesus to take control.

Step 2: Repent of Any Known Sin

  • 1 John 1:9 – Confession cleanses.

  • Repentance must become a habit.

  • Pray: "Search me, God… lead me in the way everlasting" (Psalm 139).

Step 3: Renounce the Works of the Devil

  • 2 Corinthians 4:2 – Renounce shameful and deceptive ways.

  • Declare: “I renounce Satan and all his works in the name of Jesus.”

  • Early Christians declared this at baptism.

Step 4: Destroy Occult Objects / Limit Accessibility

  • Burn or destroy anything related to the occult or addiction.

  • Put up filters, turn off access, cut ties with enabling relationships.

Step 5: Rest in Christ’s Deliverance

  • Romans 6:6 – You are no longer a slave to sin.

  • Declare victory: “Satan has no authority here!”

Step 6: Renew Your Mind

  • Romans 12:1-2 – Be transformed by renewing your mind.

  • Read Scripture. Get in community. Serve others.

Step 7: Pray with Others

  • Deliverance is more powerful in community.

  • Find people who will lock shields with you.

Step 8: Seek Deliverance if Needed

  • If the bondage is deep, bring in trusted leaders.

  • There is no shame—only freedom ahead!

3. Testimony of Restoration

A story was shared of a man nearly destroyed by demonic footholds. Seven men—Pentecostal, Reformed, and others—came alongside and said, “We won’t let you go through this alone.”

The result? Marriage restored. Ministry restored. Life transformed.

4. Application: Be a Mighty Warrior

  • Speak truth: “You have no authority here!”

  • Experience the joy of Satan falling like lightning.

  • Allow the Church—the Body of Christ—to stand with you.

Prayer of Deliverance Holy Spirit, come and fill us. For those listening today who are wounded or oppressed, bring freedom! In Jesus’ name, we command the enemy to flee. Lord, replace darkness with Your light. Use us to bring Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
