Bible Study: Angels in Spiritual Warfare
👋 Welcome Back
Welcome to Session 35 of our Spiritual Warfare series. As we near the conclusion of this journey, we turn our attention to an often overlooked yet powerful element of spiritual warfare: the role of angels.
🙇️ Angels in the Advent Narrative
Angels are present throughout Scripture, but nowhere are they more prominent than during the Advent season:
Gabriel speaks to Zechariah about the birth of John the Baptist.
Gabriel visits Mary to announce she will bear the Messiah.
Angels appear to Joseph in dreams, giving him divine guidance.
A heavenly host appears to shepherds announcing the Savior's birth.
These encounters remind us that angels are messengers and agents of God's divine plan.
⚔️ Angels in Old Testament Warfare
😲 Elisha and the Invisible Army (2 Kings 6)
Elisha warns the King of Israel about enemy movements.
The servant sees a vast enemy army.
Elisha prays: "Lord, open his eyes."
God reveals horses and chariots of fire surrounding them.
This is a rare glimpse into the unseen spiritual realm where angels actively defend God's people.
⚡ Daniel and Angelic Conflict (Daniel 10)
Daniel fasts for 21 days.
An angel appears, explaining a delay due to conflict with the Prince of Persia.
Michael, a chief angel, comes to assist in the battle.
This text reveals angelic warfare behind earthly events.
⚔️ Joshua and the Commander of the Lord’s Army (Joshua 5)
Joshua meets a man with a drawn sword.
He is told: "Take off your sandals; the place is holy."
This is likely Michael, the archangel, leading the heavenly armies.
🌌 Understanding Angelic Roles
📖 Types of Angels:
Archangel: Chief angel (e.g., Michael). See Jude 9 and 1 Thess. 4:16.
Cherubim: Guardians (e.g., Genesis 3:24, Exodus 25:18-20).
Seraphim: Worship leaders in God's throne room (Isaiah 6).
Living Creatures: Found in Revelation; unique beings offering continuous worship.
Common Angels: Ministering spirits (Hebrews 1:14); sometimes show up disguised (Hebrews 13:2).
🙇️ Ministering Spirits
Angels serve those who inherit salvation (Heb. 1:14).
They protect, guide, deliver, and sometimes even appear at our deathbeds to escort us to heaven.
🙏 Hospitality to Angels
Hebrews 13:2 encourages us to be hospitable: some have hosted angels without knowing it.
Acts of compassion and service may be intersections with the divine.
📸 A Modern Angelic Testimony
A woman from the speaker's church was on her deathbed. Moments before passing, she woke from a coma and said: "I see angels... one here, one there, one next to you."
Angels, even now, are active participants in our life and death journeys.
🌟 Conclusion: Heavenly Allies
As we fight the good fight of faith, let us remember:
We are not alone.
Heavenly forces are deployed on our behalf.
Angels are part of God's strategy in the unseen battle.
🙏 May your eyes be opened to see the hosts that surround you. We'll see you for our final session next time.
