📖 Video Transcript: Training First, Ordination Later: Understanding the Difference

Hi, I am Haley, a Christian Leaders Institute presenter.

One of the most helpful things to understand early in the Chaplain Program is the difference between training and ordination.

These two ideas are related, but they are not the same.

Training is the process of learning, growing, and being formed. It includes study, discernment, skill development, biblical grounding, and ministry preparation. Training helps you become ready for responsibility.

Ordination is a later step of formal recognition and commissioning into ministry responsibility. It is not the same as simply beginning a course. It comes after real preparation, and it should be approached with seriousness, humility, and good order.

That matters because sometimes people can confuse starting training with already being ready for public recognition.

But healthy ministry formation follows a better pattern.

First, you study.
First, you grow.
First, you are shaped.
Then, when the time is right, recognized ministry steps may come later.

This protects the student. It also protects the integrity of ministry.

At Christian Leaders Institute, the goal is not to rush people toward titles. The goal is to help people take their study seriously, understand their direction clearly, and move toward recognized service in a healthy way.

For chaplaincy students, this means you can value the training season for what it is. It is not a lesser season. It is an important season.

It is the season where you build foundations.
It is the season where you test calling.
It is the season where you learn the difference between desire and readiness.

Later, ordination may become an important step for some students. But that step is strongest when it grows out of real formation, not hurry.

A simple way to remember this is:

training forms you
ordination recognizes you

That order matters.

So if you are early in the journey, do not feel pressure to rush ahead. Give yourself permission to value the training process. Let the course help you grow into clarity, maturity, and readiness.

That is how strong ministry pathways are built.

Thank you for taking this next step in your chaplain journey at Christian Leaders Institute.
