🎥 Video 3C Transcript: Decline, Fatigue, Conflict, Calling, or Closure?

Hi, I am Henry Reyenga, founder of Christian Leaders Institute.

In this video, we will talk about five realities a church may need to discern: decline, fatigue, conflict, calling, or closure.

A church may look stuck on the surface, but the reason matters.

First, a church may be in decline.

Decline means the church is losing people, energy, finances, leadership capacity, community connection, or disciple-making strength. Decline should be named honestly. But decline does not always mean the church is finished. It may be a warning light calling the church to prayer, repentance, renewed leadership, and mission.

Second, a church may be experiencing fatigue.

Fatigue happens when a few people have carried too much for too long. Volunteers are tired. Leaders are weary. Members feel discouraged. In that case, the church may not need harsh criticism. It may need rest, encouragement, shared responsibility, training, and realistic ministry rhythms.

Third, a church may be shaped by conflict.

Sometimes the real issue is not attendance, music, or programming. It is unresolved hurt. People may be polite in public but wounded underneath. Conflict-stuck churches need truth, repentance, forgiveness, boundaries, and trust rebuilding.

Fourth, a church may need to rediscover its calling.

A church may have survived for years without asking, “Why has God placed us here now?” Calling helps a church move from self-preservation to mission. Who are our neighbors? What gifts has God given us? What ministry can we do faithfully in this season?

Fifth, a church may need to consider closure.

This is painful, but sometimes faithful. If there is no teachable leadership, no safe structure, no sustainable ministry, no willingness to repent, and no realistic path forward, closure may become stewardship. Even then, the church’s legacy can be honored, and resources can bless future ministry.

The goal is not to rush to conclusions.

The goal is discernment.

Is this decline that can be addressed?

Is this fatigue that needs care?

Is this conflict that needs healing?

Is this a calling that needs to be recovered?

Or is this a season that may need faithful closure?

These are holy questions.

Ask them prayerfully.

Ask them with Scripture open.

Ask them with wise counsel.

Ask them with love for Christ and his church.

A truthful diagnosis can feel hard, but it can also become the doorway to faithful next steps.
