🎥 Video 9A Transcript: Discovering Emerging Leaders

Hi, I am Henry Reyenga, president of Christian Leaders Institute.

In this video, we are going to talk about discovering emerging leaders.

Every church already has future leaders in seed form.

Some are obvious. They teach, organize, speak, lead groups, and volunteer quickly.

Others are hidden. They serve quietly. They listen well. They show up faithfully. They care for people when no one is watching. They may not yet see themselves as leaders, but others already trust them.

One of the pastor’s most important multiplication tasks is to notice these people.

Leadership development does not begin with a title.

It begins with discernment.

Jesus noticed fishermen, tax collectors, ordinary workers, and overlooked people. He called them, formed them, corrected them, sent them, and entrusted them with kingdom work. The early church also recognized faithful people and entrusted ministry to them.

Pastors and church leaders can do the same.

The question is not only, “Who is already leading?”

The deeper question is, “Who is becoming ready to lead?”

Look for faithfulness.

Who keeps showing up?

Who follows through?

Who serves without needing attention?

Look for teachability.

Who receives correction well?

Who wants to grow?

Who listens before speaking?

Look for spiritual hunger.

Who loves Scripture?

Who asks good questions?

Who is becoming more prayerful?

Look for relational maturity.

Who brings peace instead of drama?

Who handles disagreement with humility?

Who notices people on the edges?

Look for calling.

Who seems burdened for a ministry need?

Who naturally gathers people?

Who feels drawn to officiant ministry, chaplaincy, life coach ministry, teaching, discipleship, youth ministry, micro church planting, or pastoral care?

Many churches make the mistake of waiting for leaders to self-identify. But some of the best leaders need someone to call out the gift in them.

A pastor might say, “I see compassion in you. Have you ever considered chaplaincy training?”

Or, “You ask thoughtful questions. Have you considered life coach ministry?”

Or, “You are faithful with young adults. Would you be willing to explore more training?”

Or, “You have a gift for hospitality. Could God use your home for a micro church or Bible gathering?”

Christian Leaders Institute can help provide accessible training for these emerging leaders. Christian Leaders Alliance can provide study-based ordination pathways for those called into public ministry roles. But the local church provides the personal discernment. The church sees the person’s life, character, faithfulness, and readiness.

Pastor, do not underestimate the quiet people.

The next leader may not be the loudest voice in the room.

The next leader may be the one who prays faithfully, visits quietly, serves steadily, and loves people deeply.

A church leadership pipeline begins when pastors and leaders learn to notice what God is already growing.

In the next video, we will talk about training elders, deacons, and ministry volunteers.
