🎥 Video 1A Transcript: Welcome to Comparative Religion Ministry Skills

Hi, I am Haley, a Christian Leaders Institute presenter.

Welcome to Comparative Religion Ministry Skills.

This course is designed for Christian leaders who serve real people in real ministry settings. You may be an officiant preparing for a wedding or funeral. You may be a minister teaching, discipling, or caring for people in a congregation. You may be a chaplain walking into a hospital room, jail pod, school, crisis scene, or hospice setting. You may be a life coach helping someone think about identity, calling, purpose, marriage, work, grief, or spiritual direction.

In all of these settings, people bring beliefs with them.

Some people are Christian. Some are Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, or shaped by another religious tradition. Some say they are spiritual but not religious. Some say they believe in science, not religion. Some believe in karma, reincarnation, the universe, energy, fate, ancestors, personal truth, or becoming their highest self.

This course will help you listen beneath the words.

The goal is not to become argumentative. The goal is not to mock other religions. The goal is not to pressure people in vulnerable moments. The goal is to become a wiser Christian leader who can listen deeply, discern carefully, compare respectfully, and bear witness to Jesus Christ with humility and clarity.

A key idea in this course is that every person has some belief about what is ultimate. We might call this the altar. We might call it the God-spot. What does this person believe everything finally depends on? What do they believe is wrong with human life? What path do they trust for healing, salvation, liberation, peace, or restoration? What final hope are they holding?

These questions matter in ministry.

A couple may ask for a spiritual wedding but not mean the God of Scripture. A grieving family may say all religions lead to the same place. A patient may say, “I don’t believe in God, but I believe everything happens for a reason.” A client may say, “I just need to become my highest self.”

Those are ministry moments.

In this course, we will practice asking better questions, respecting dignity, using Scripture with wisdom, praying by permission, staying within our ministry role, and building gospel bridges without manipulation.

Comparative religion ministry skills help us avoid two mistakes. We do not pretend all religions teach the same thing. We also do not treat people as projects or opponents.

We serve image-bearers.

We listen with love.

We speak with truth.

And we trust Christ to guide us.

Welcome to the course.
