🎥 Video 1C Transcript: The Comparative Religion Ministry Conversation: Humility, Curiosity, and Christ-Centered Clarity

Hi, I am Haley, a Christian Leaders Institute presenter.

In this video, we are talking about the posture of a comparative religion ministry conversation.

The posture has three parts: humility, curiosity, and Christ-centered clarity.

First, humility.

Humility means we do not enter the conversation as if we already know the whole story. A person is more than a religious label. Not every Hindu believes the same way. Not every Buddhist practices the same way. Not every Muslim has the same depth of understanding. Not every Jewish person relates to Judaism the same way. Not every Christian has been well taught. Not every secular person has thought through what they believe.

So we ask. We listen. We do not caricature.

Humility also means remembering that Christians have not always represented Christ well. Some people carry religious wounds. Some have experienced hypocrisy, pressure, abuse, shame, or disappointment. A wise Christian leader does not become defensive too quickly. We listen with patience.

Second, curiosity.

Curiosity does not mean nosiness. It means respectful interest.

A good ministry question might be:

“What did your family teach you about God?”

“What gives you hope when life is painful?”

“What do you believe happens after death?”

“What does prayer mean to you?”

“What do you believe people most need to be made whole?”

These questions help us understand the person’s spiritual map.

But curiosity must be permission-based. Not every setting is right for a deep conversation. A funeral receiving line is different from a pastoral appointment. A hospital visit is different from a classroom. A wedding planning meeting is different from a coaching session.

Third, Christ-centered clarity.

Respect does not mean vagueness. Listening does not mean pretending all beliefs are the same. Christian leaders believe that God created all things, that human beings are made in God’s image, that sin and death are real, and that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.

So we speak clearly, but not harshly.

A gospel bridge might sound like this:

“I hear your longing for peace. Christians believe peace is not only a feeling. It is reconciliation with God through Jesus Christ.”

That is clear. It is also respectful.

In this course, you will practice this posture again and again.

Humility.

Curiosity.

Christ-centered clarity.

Together, they help us serve people with truth, dignity, and love.
