📝 Worksheet 3.4: Thanking God for My Life, Story, and Growth
Christian Gratitude Growth — Topic 3: Gratitude for Your Own Life Before God
Seeing Your Life as God Designed It
Purpose
This worksheet helps you practice Self-Gratitude Before God.
This is not self-worship.
This is not pride.
This is not pretending your story has been easy.
Self-gratitude before God is learning to receive your life as something God created, sustained, forgave, healed, and continues to form.
Step 1: Begin with Prayer
Pray slowly:
Lord, help me receive my life before you. Teach me to thank you for creating me, sustaining me, forgiving me, forming me, and calling me. Help me tell the truth without shame and receive grace without pride. Amen.
Step 2: Thank God That You Exist
Read this Scripture:
I will give thanks to you,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Your works are wonderful.
My soul knows that very well.
Psalm 139:14 WEB
Complete this sentence:
Lord, thank you for my life because:
What makes this sentence easy or hard for you to write?
Step 3: Thank God for Survival
Many people have lived through things that were difficult, painful, confusing, or exhausting.
You do not need to thank God for everything that happened. But you can thank God that he sustained you through what happened.
Complete one or more of these sentences:
Lord, thank you that I survived:
Lord, thank you that you carried me through:
Lord, thank you that I am still here because:
Step 4: Thank God for Growth
Growth is often quiet. You may still have a long way to go, but God may already be forming something good in you.
Check any areas where you have seen some growth:
☐ I am more honest than I used to be.
☐ I apologize more quickly.
☐ I listen better.
☐ I am learning to pray.
☐ I am less controlled by anger.
☐ I am less controlled by fear.
☐ I am less controlled by shame.
☐ I am learning to set healthier boundaries.
☐ I am learning to forgive without denying harm.
☐ I am more patient.
☐ I am more willing to receive help.
☐ I am more aware of God’s grace.
☐ Other: ______________________________________
Complete this sentence:
Lord, thank you that I have grown in this way:
Step 5: Thank God for Gifts
Your gifts do not need to be dramatic to be real.
A gift may be listening, encouraging, organizing, serving, praying, teaching, creating, repairing, leading, noticing, comforting, cooking, working faithfully, or showing up when others disappear.
Complete this sentence:
Lord, thank you for this gift you have entrusted to me:
How could this gift bless someone else?
Step 6: Thank God for Calling
Read this Scripture:
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared before that we would walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10 WEB
Your life is not only something to survive. Your life is something to offer.
Complete these sentences:
One way God may be calling me to serve, love, or bless others is:
One ordinary place where I can live my calling this week is:
Step 7: Name Shame and Grace
Shame often says, “You are worthless.”
Grace says, “You are created, accountable, forgiven, and still being formed.”
Complete both sentences honestly:
A shame-based sentence I have believed about myself is:
A grace-based truth I can practice instead is:
Example:
Shame says: “I am ruined.”
Grace says: “I am wounded, but not worthless. God is still forming me.”
Step 8: Practice Christian Gratitude Discernment
Use the five-part discernment pattern.

Name
What pain, regret, shame, or disappointment do you need to name honestly before God?
Test

Lord, thank you for my life before you. Thank you that I am not an accident. Thank you that shame does not get the final word. Thank you for sustaining me, correcting me, forgiving me, healing me, and forming me. Help me receive my story with truth and hope. Help me use my gifts in love. Amen.
