🎥 Video 4C Transcript: How to Practice Embodied Gratitude Before God

Hi, I am Haley, a Christian Leaders Institute presenter.

In this lesson, we are learning how to practice embodied gratitude before God.

Embodied gratitude is the practice of thanking God for your life as a whole person.

Your breath.

Your body.

Your story.

Your biological life.

Your maleness or femaleness.

Your capacity to serve.

Your ability to love.

Your need for rest.

Your need for healing.

Your calling before God.

This practice begins with honesty.

Do not start by pretending you feel thankful for everything connected to your body.

Instead, begin with one truthful grace.

You might say:

“Lord, thank you for breath today.”

“Lord, thank you that my hands can serve.”

“Lord, thank you that my body helped me get through this day.”

“Lord, thank you for the strength I still have.”

“Lord, help me receive my life as a man before you.”

“Lord, help me receive my life as a woman before you.”

“Lord, help me care for my body without shame or pride.”

This kind of prayer may feel simple, but it can be deeply healing.

The Bible teaches that we are created by God. It also teaches that believers are called to honor God with their bodies.

1 Corinthians 6:20 says:

“For you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
1 Corinthians 6:20, WEB

Embodied gratitude does not mean body worship.

It means body stewardship.

It means receiving your body as part of your life before God.

It means refusing both shame and idolatry.

It means caring for your body as someone loved by God.

Here is a simple practice for this week.

First, name one part of your embodied life that is difficult for you to receive with gratitude.

Second, name one grace connected to your body.

Third, name one faithful act of care.

For example:

“One difficult area is aging.”

“One grace is that I still have strength to serve my family.”

“One faithful act of care is going for a walk and thanking God for breath.”

The Bible encourages thanksgiving, and Ministry Sciences observes that repeated practices of honest attention can reshape how people experience identity, memory, and daily life.

So do not rush.

Do not shame yourself into gratitude.

Receive one grace.

Name one truth.

Practice one act of care.

Embodied gratitude begins when you bring your whole self before God and say:

“Lord, teach me to receive the life you gave me.”
