🎥 Video 7A Transcript: Gratitude and the Fruitful Life

Hi, I am Haley, a Christian Leaders Institute presenter.

Christian gratitude is not just a nice habit.

It is part of spiritual growth.

When the Holy Spirit is forming us, gratitude helps open our eyes to God’s grace, God’s presence, and God’s work in ordinary life.

Galatians 5:22–23 says,

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”

Notice that Paul calls this fruit.

Fruit grows.

It is not manufactured by pressure.
It is not performed for religious attention.
It is not forced by guilt.

Fruit grows from life.

When we walk with God, the Holy Spirit forms the character of Christ in us.

Gratitude helps us notice that formation.

A grateful soul begins to ask:

Where is God growing love in me?
Where is joy returning?
Where is peace replacing panic?
Where is patience growing in my reactions?
Where is kindness softening my words?
Where is goodness shaping my choices?
Where is faithfulness keeping me steady?
Where is gentleness changing my tone?
Where is self-control protecting my calling?

This kind of gratitude is not pride.

It is not saying, “Look how spiritual I am.”

It is saying, “Lord, thank you for the fruit you are growing in me.”

Sometimes we only notice what is still wrong.

We see our impatience, our fear, our anger, our weakness, our selfishness, our old habits.

Those things may need confession and growth.

But Christian Gratitude Discernment also asks, “What grace is already growing?”

Maybe you did not explode like you used to.

Maybe you apologized faster.

Maybe you listened before reacting.

Maybe you chose prayer instead of panic.

Maybe you showed kindness when you wanted to withdraw.

That is fruit.

The Bible encourages this kind of noticing, and Ministry Sciences observes a similar pattern in human formation. People grow when they can honestly name both what still needs healing and what is already being formed by repeated practice, grace, and community.

Gratitude helps us see progress without pretending we are finished.

So today, ask God to show you one fruit of the Spirit He is growing in your life.

Not all nine at once.

One.

Then thank Him.

Christian gratitude says:

“Lord, I still have room to grow, but I can see your grace at work.”

That is the fruitful life.
