📝 Worksheet 7.4: Fruit of the Spirit Gratitude Inventory

Course: Christian Gratitude Growth
Topic 7: Gratitude and the Fruit of the Spirit
Connection: This worksheet helps students practice gratitude by noticing where the Holy Spirit is already growing fruit and where more formation is needed.

Opening Thought

The fruit of the Spirit is not a performance.

It is not a spiritual scoreboard.

It is not a way to shame yourself for what is still immature.

The fruit of the Spirit is the life of Christ being formed in you by the Holy Spirit.

Christian gratitude helps you notice that growth.

You may still have room to grow.

You may still react too quickly.

You may still struggle with fear, anger, impatience, resentment, or self-control.

But God may also be growing something real in you.

This worksheet will help you notice grace, confess honestly, and take one faithful step.

Scripture Reflection

Read this Scripture slowly.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:22–23, WEB

The fruit of the Spirit that stands out to me today is:

This fruit stands out because:

1. Love

Love seeks the good of another before God.

Where did God help me love someone recently?

Where do I still need love to grow?

Gratitude prayer:
Lord, thank you for growing love in me when…

2. Joy

Joy is deeper than mood. It is gladness rooted in God’s grace and hope.

Where did I notice goodness, beauty, mercy, or hope recently?

Where do I need joy to return or deepen?

Gratitude prayer:
Lord, thank you for one sign of joy in…

3. Peace

Peace is not pretending. Peace is resting in God’s presence and truth.

Where did God help me resist panic, bitterness, control, or despair?

Where do I need the peace of God to guard my heart and thoughts?

Gratitude prayer:
Lord, thank you for giving me peace when…

4. Patience

Patience is faithful endurance without surrendering to bitterness.

Where did I wait, slow down, listen, or endure recently?

Where do I become impatient most quickly?

Gratitude prayer:
Lord, thank you for helping patience grow when…

5. Kindness

Kindness is love expressed through care.

Where did my words or actions bring care to someone?

Where do I need kindness to soften my tone or response?

Gratitude prayer:
Lord, thank you for helping me show kindness when…

6. Goodness

Goodness is love expressed through what is right, honest, and faithful before God.

Where did I choose what was right even when it was not easy?

Where do I need courage to choose goodness?

Gratitude prayer:
Lord, thank you for helping me choose goodness when…

7. Faithfulness

Faithfulness keeps showing up.

Where did I keep a promise, complete a responsibility, or stay steady?

Where am I tempted to quit, drift, hide, or become careless?

Gratitude prayer:
Lord, thank you for helping me remain faithful when…

8. Gentleness

Gentleness is strength governed by love.

Where did I respond with softness instead of harshness?

Where do I need gentleness in my words, tone, correction, or leadership?

Gratitude prayer:
Lord, thank you for growing gentleness in me when…

9. Self-Control

Self-control is Spirit-formed restraint that protects love, calling, body, soul, and relationships.

Where did I say no to something harmful or pause before reacting?

Where do I need self-control most right now?

Gratitude prayer:
Lord, thank you for helping me practice self-control when…

10. Notice One Fruit to Celebrate

Do not try to celebrate everything at once.

Choose one fruit where you can honestly see grace.

One fruit of the Spirit I can thank God for today is:

I saw this fruit when:

This is grace because:

Write this sentence:

Lord, thank you that I am not finished, but I can see your grace growing in me through:

11. Notice One Fruit That Needs Growth

Choose one fruit where you need the Holy Spirit’s formation.

One fruit of the Spirit I need God to grow in me is:

I especially need this fruit when:

One habit, reaction, or attitude that gets in the way is:

One prayer I can pray is:

Example: “Holy Spirit, grow gentleness in me before I correct someone.”
Example: “Holy Spirit, grow self-control in me when I feel angry.”
Example: “Holy Spirit, grow peace in me when I feel afraid.”

12. Take One Faithful Step

Fruit grows through repeated Spirit-shaped responses.

This week, I will practice this fruit by:

Choose one simple step:

☐ Pause before answering
☐ Pray before reacting
☐ Speak a softer word
☐ Apologize without excuse
☐ Send an encouraging message
☐ Complete one responsibility
☐ Remove one temptation
☐ Tell the truth kindly
☐ Rest instead of controlling
☐ Ask for help
☐ Other: _______________________________

What may make this difficult?

What will help me practice this step?

Prayer

Lord,

Thank you for the fruit of the Spirit.

Thank you that spiritual growth is not fake performance.

Thank you that I do not have to manufacture love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, or self-control on my own.

Holy Spirit, show me where grace is already growing.

Help me notice progress without pride.

Help me confess weakness without shame.

Grow fruit in the ordinary places of my life — in my home, work, church, friendships, habits, thoughts, words, and reactions.

Make me more like Jesus.

Amen.

Final Reflection

Write one paragraph using this sentence starter:

Lord, thank you for the fruit you are growing in me, especially…

Closing Reminder

The fruitful life grows one Spirit-shaped response at a time.

One softer word.

One honest apology.

One faithful act.

One moment of self-control.

One prayer before panic.

One small sign of joy.

Christian gratitude helps you say:

“Lord, thank you for what you are growing in me.”
