Hi, I am Haley, a Christian Leaders Institute presenter.

A ministry leader meets with a man named Victor who says, “I do not know what story I am living in anymore.”

He lost his job. His marriage is tense. His daughter has pulled away from church. He feels ashamed, angry, and useless.

Victor says, “Maybe life is just survival. Maybe I am only here to pay bills until I die.”

That is not only discouragement. That is a story problem.

Every person lives inside a story about what life is, what went wrong, what can be done, and where hope is found.

PhilMinistry Skills teaches leaders to frame human life within the biblical story: Creation, Fall, Redemption, Calling, Spiritual Growth, and Resurrection Hope.

Creation says life is God’s good gift. Victor is not an accident. He is made in God’s image. His body, work, family, relationships, gifts, and responsibilities matter.

Fall says something has gone terribly wrong. Sin, shame, suffering, injustice, death, idolatry, confusion, and broken relationships are real. Victor’s pain should not be minimized.

Redemption says Jesus Christ entered the broken story to forgive sin, defeat evil, reconcile us to God, and begin new creation.

Calling says Victor is not useless. Even in weakness, he is invited to faithful participation in God’s world.

Spiritual Growth says the Holy Spirit forms patience, courage, wisdom, humility, love, repentance, and hope over time.

Resurrection Hope says death, failure, shame, and evil do not get the last word.

This biblical story keeps leaders from reductionism. Victor is not only unemployed. He is not only depressed. He is not only a husband in conflict. He is not only a father grieving his daughter’s choices. He is an embodied soul living before God in a fallen world where Christ is redeeming and calling.

Dooyeweerd helps us notice the many aspects involved: work, money, family, emotion, identity, faith, justice, love, and hope.

Clouser helps us ask, “What is Victor treating as ultimate?” Maybe success. Maybe being respected. Maybe being in control.

Ministry Sciences observes that people often heal and grow when their pain is placed within a larger meaning-filled story.

But the Gospel gives the deepest story: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

What helps is saying, “Victor, your life is painful right now, but pain is not the whole story.”

What harms is saying, “Just think positive,” or “Just get over it,” or “Your life is ruined.”

The takeaway is this: Christian leaders help people locate their lives inside God’s true story of creation, fall, redemption, calling, and resurrection hope.
