📝 Worksheet 4.4: Family Systems, Roles, and Wedding Stress Discernment Worksheet
📝 Worksheet 4.4: Pre-Marriage Readiness, Red Flags, and Referral Discernment Worksheet
Purpose of This Worksheet
This worksheet helps the Wedding Minister discern whether the bride and groom are ready to proceed with normal wedding preparation, whether more conversation is needed, or whether pastoral care, counseling, supervision, legal clarification, or safety-aware referral may be required.
This worksheet is designed for ministry discernment, not diagnosis.
A wedding officiant leads the ceremony. A Wedding Minister serves the covenant.
Use this worksheet after the first couple meeting or whenever concerns arise about readiness, freedom, safety, spiritual seriousness, family pressure, civil requirements, or role boundaries.
This worksheet is ministry training, not legal advice, therapy, licensed counseling, abuse investigation, or institutional policy counsel.

Why?
11. If I Need to Slow Down the Process
Use language that is calm, clear, and non-shaming.
Possible Script
“I want your wedding ceremony to be beautiful, but I also want your marriage covenant to be entered with clarity, freedom, and peace before God. I am not saying no today. I am saying this deserves more conversation before we finalize the ceremony.”
Another Possible Script
“I care about both of you too much to rush past this. The next faithful step is not to panic, but to slow down, seek wisdom, and make sure this covenant is being entered honestly before God.”
If Referral Is Needed
“This concern is beyond what I should handle by myself. I want to help you connect with the right support before we move forward.”
If Declining May Be Needed
“After prayer and careful discernment, I am not able to officiate this ceremony in good conscience as things stand. I want to say that respectfully, without shaming you. I encourage you to seek wise pastoral or professional guidance for the next step.”
12. Prayerful Reflection
Lord, give me wisdom to serve this bride and groom with truth and love.
Help me see what must be seen and not imagine what I do not know.
Help me proceed when proceeding is faithful.
Help me slow down when slowing down is faithful.
Help me refer when referral is faithful.
Help me decline when declining is faithful.
Protect the bride and groom from fear, confusion, pressure, and harm.
Let this preparation honor Christ, the covenant, the families, and the witness of Christian marriage.
Amen.
