📝 Worksheet 11.4: 30-Day, 90-Day, and First-Year Marriage Follow-Up Plan

Purpose of This Worksheet

This worksheet helps the Wedding Minister create a simple, faithful, post-wedding follow-up plan for the bride and groom.

A wedding officiant may think, “My work is finished when the ceremony ends.”

A Wedding Minister says, “The wedding is the public beginning of covenant life, and I can bless the couple with prayer, encouragement, resources, and referral wisdom.”

This worksheet is not designed to make the Wedding Minister responsible for the couple’s marriage. It is designed to help the minister offer appropriate post-wedding care while respecting boundaries.

A wedding officiant leads the ceremony.
A Wedding Minister serves the covenant.

3. Scripture Reflection for Post-Wedding Ministry

Read and reflect before following up.

Psalm 127:1 WEB
“Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless Yahweh watches over the city, the watchman guards it in vain.”

Colossians 3:12–14 WEB
“Put on therefore, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, a heart of compassion, kindness, lowliness, humility, and perseverance; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection.”

Hebrews 10:24–25 WEB
“Let’s consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Reflection

What Scripture truth should guide my follow-up with this bride and groom?

13. Ministry Sciences Reflection

Ministry Sciences reminds us that follow-up works best when love has a pathway.

A pathway helps the couple know where to turn.
A pathway helps the minister stay within role boundaries.
A pathway reduces shame because marriage growth becomes normal.
A pathway protects the vulnerable because red flags are not ignored.
A pathway supports the covenant after the ceremony.

Reflection

What pathway do I need to strengthen for future couples?

☐ 30-day blessing system
☐ 90-day check-in system
☐ First-year anniversary system
☐ Christian Marriage Growth recommendation
☐ Mentor couple network
☐ Pastoral care referral
☐ Licensed counseling referral
☐ Safety referral
☐ Recordkeeping for follow-up
☐ Other: ___________________________________

Action step:

14. Organic Humans Reflection

The bride and groom are embodied souls entering daily covenant life.

Their marriage involves spiritual, emotional, physical, sexual, relational, familial, financial, and public realities.

The bride comes as an organic female image-bearer before God.
The groom comes as an organic male image-bearer before God.

Post-wedding follow-up honors them as whole persons. It says, “Your covenant matters after the ceremony.”

Reflection

How can my follow-up honor this bride and groom as whole persons before God?

15. Permission-Based Follow-Up

The Wedding Minister should not become intrusive or controlling.

Before or after the wedding, ask:

“Would it be all right if I sent you a marriage blessing about a month after the wedding?”

“Would you like me to send a Christian Marriage Growth recommendation after the ceremony?”

“Would you be open to a simple 90-day encouragement note?”

Couple’s follow-up preference:

☐ 30-day blessing only
☐ 30-day and 90-day contact
☐ First-year anniversary blessing
☐ Christian Marriage Growth recommendation
☐ No follow-up requested
☐ Other: ___________________________________

17. Final Prayer

Lord, help me serve this bride and groom beyond the ceremony with wisdom, humility, and love. Keep me from overreaching, neglecting, controlling, or pretending. Help me offer prayer, encouragement, Christian formation, and wise referrals. May their marriage grow in Christ and become a witness to your grace. Amen.

For this bride and groom, the next faithful post-wedding ministry step is…
