Worksheet 2.4: My Christian Soul Growth Reflection Map

Course: Become a Soul Coach
Topic 2: What Is Soul Growth?

Opening Thought

Christian soul growth is not merely self-improvement. It is the Holy Spirit renewing the living soul under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

A Soul Coach does not save, sanctify, fix, or control another person. A Soul Coach listens, asks wise questions, honors responsibility, points to Christ, and helps a person discern one faithful next step.

Use this worksheet first for your own reflection. Before you guide another soul, practice noticing your own growth before God.

Part 1: My Current Picture of Soul Growth

Complete these sentences honestly.

  1. When I hear the phrase soul growth, I think of:

  1. One area where I desire growth right now is:

  1. I am tempted to define growth mostly as:

☐ Feeling better
☐ Being more successful
☐ Having fewer problems
☐ Getting people to change
☐ Becoming more disciplined
☐ Being admired spiritually
☐ Avoiding pain
☐ Other: ______________________________________

  1. A more Christ-centered definition of growth would be:

Part 2: Grace Before Growth

Titus 3:5 says that God saved us:

“not by works of righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit.”

Reflect:

  1. Where do I sometimes try to earn God’s approval?

  1. Where do I need to receive God’s mercy before trying to improve?

  1. How might grace become the foundation for my next step?

Part 3: Renewal of the Mind

Romans 12:2 says:

“Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Identify one thought pattern that may need renewal.

A thought I often believe is:

A Scripture-shaped truth that could renew this thought is:

A new way to pray about this thought is:

A faithful action that could help me practice this renewed thinking is:

Part 4: Fruit of the Spirit Reflection

Galatians 5:22–23 describes the fruit of the Spirit as:

“love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control.”

Circle or mark the fruit where you most desire growth right now:

Love
Joy
Peace
Patience
Kindness
Goodness
Faith
Gentleness
Self-control

Now reflect:

  1. Why did I choose this fruit?

  1. Where is this fruit being tested in my life?

  1. What would this fruit look like in one real situation this week?

  1. What would it look like to depend on the Holy Spirit rather than willpower alone?

Part 5: The 15-Aspect Soul Growth Reflection

Use these prompts to notice where your soul growth issue may be connected to the whole person. You do not need to answer every question. Mark the areas that seem most relevant.

What am I trusting, fearing, worshiping, or doubting in this area?

How am I seeing myself before God?

Justice and Boundary Aspect

Is there a boundary, safety concern, fairness issue, or accountability need?

Beauty and Joy Aspect

Where might gratitude, delight, creativity, rest, or beauty support growth?

Community and Kingdom Aspect

Part 6: Consent and Safety Practice for Soul Coaches

A Soul Coach must learn to ask permission and recognize limits.

Practice writing permission-based language.

  1. Before offering Scripture, I could ask:

“Would it be helpful if ____________________________________________?”

  1. Before praying, I could ask:

“Would you be open to ____________________________________________?”

  1. Before suggesting a Christian Growth course, I could ask:

“Would it be useful to ____________________________________________?”

  1. Before moving into a deeper topic, I could ask:

“Would you feel comfortable ______________________________________?”

  1. If the issue seems beyond Soul Coaching, I could say:

“This sounds important, and I care about you. This may also need support from __________________________________________________________.”

Part 7: Wise Referral Awareness

Mark any situations where a Soul Coach should not try to handle the issue alone.

☐ Suicidal thoughts
☐ Self-harm
☐ Abuse
☐ Domestic violence
☐ Severe addiction
☐ Medical crisis
☐ Trauma processing
☐ Legal concerns
☐ Child safety
☐ Elder abuse
☐ Threats of harm
☐ Severe depression or anxiety
☐ Psychosis or loss of touch with reality
☐ Marriage danger or coercive control
☐ Other: ______________________________________

Write one sentence that shows both care and referral wisdom:

Part 8: My One Faithful Next Step

Now create a simple soul growth step.

The growth area I am focusing on is:

The grace I need to remember is:

The truth I need to receive is:

The practice I will try this week is:

When I will practice it:

Who or what could support me:

How I will notice progress:

Part 9: Fill-in-the-Blank Coaching Language

Practice saying these as a Soul Coach.

  1. “What kind of growth do you sense God may be inviting in this area?”

  2. “Where do you need to receive God’s grace rather than live under shame?”

  3. “What is one faithful step you can own before God this week?”

  4. “Would it be helpful to look at this through a whole-person soul growth lens?”

  5. “This sounds like something that may need more support than coaching alone. Who could help you wisely and safely?”

Now write your own Soul Coaching question:

Prayer

Lord Jesus,

You are the Savior and Shepherd of my soul.
Thank you that I do not grow by earning your love.
I grow because your mercy has already come near.

Renew my mind.
Form your fruit in me.
Teach me to repent without despair, obey without pride, and practice faithfulness without pretending.

Help me become the kind of Soul Coach who listens with humility, speaks with grace and truth, honors responsibility, and points others to you.

Holy Spirit, renew the living soul before you.

Amen.

Final Reflection

Write a short paragraph in response:

What did I learn about Christian soul growth that will shape the way I coach others?
