📝 Worksheet 5.5: Offense Inventory, Lament, and Release Prayer

Purpose

This worksheet helps you bring a real hurt into the presence of Jesus Christ. You will name the wound, distinguish hurt from offense, identify how the Wildfire has been fed, practice lament, release personal vengeance to God, and choose one faithful next step.

This worksheet is for prayerful self-examination. It is not a tool for blaming yourself for someone else’s sin or diagnosing another person’s motives.

Scripture Focus

Psalm 62:8
Ephesians 4:26–32
Hebrews 12:14–15
Romans 12:18–21
Matthew 18:21–35

Safety Reminder

If this conflict involves violence, coercion, threats, stalking, sexual abuse, child abuse, severe intimidation, criminal behavior, or serious danger, do not use this worksheet as a plan for direct confrontation.

Seek wise outside help, appropriate protection, pastoral support, professional care, legal help, or emergency assistance as needed.

Forgiveness does not mean pretending harm did not happen. Peace does not require passivity. Reconciliation requires truth and sufficient safety.

Part 1: Opening Prayer

Pray slowly before writing.

Lord Jesus,
You see what happened. You know what hurt me, what confused me, what angered me, and what I have carried. Help me tell the truth without denial. Help me grieve without bitterness. Show me where hurt has become offense. Keep me from revenge, gossip, accusation, and coldness. Lead me back to the Peacefire. Amen.

Part 3: Distinguish Hurt From Offense

Being hurt is not the same as living in the trap of offense.

1. What part of this hurt is real and should not be denied?

2. Where might hurt have begun turning into offense?

☐ I imagine conversations where I finally win.
☐ I tell the story in ways that make the other person look worse.
☐ I assign motives without asking questions.
☐ I enjoy when others agree with my negative view.
☐ I resist praying for the person.
☐ I call bitterness “discernment.”
☐ I withdraw coldly to punish.
☐ I gossip or recruit support.
☐ I become angry when someone suggests a more balanced view.
☐ I secretly want them to suffer because I suffered.
☐ I refuse to consider whether I have any part to own.
☐ I keep the wound active because it gives me control of the story.

Part 5: Lament Before God

Psalm 62:8 invites God’s people to pour out their hearts before Him.

Use honest words. You do not need to sound polished.

Part 7: Release Personal Vengeance to God

Romans 12:19 teaches believers not to seek revenge but to entrust judgment to God.

This does not erase consequences. It does not remove boundaries. It does not require unsafe access.

It means you release personal repayment to God.

Complete this prayer:

Lord, I release to You my desire to make:

pay for:

I entrust justice to You because:

Help me stop making repayment the center of my heart by:

Part 8: What Is Mine to Own?

Do not plan an unsafe conversation. Consider timing, wisdom, role, and support.

Part 9: Forgiveness, Boundaries, and Wisdom

Forgiveness releases personal vengeance to God.

Forgiveness does not mean:

☐ Pretending harm did not happen
☐ Calling evil good
☐ Restoring trust instantly
☐ Removing consequences
☐ Giving unsafe access
☐ Avoiding truth
☐ Refusing help

1. What would forgiveness mean in this situation?

2. What would forgiveness not mean in this situation?

3. Is a boundary or firebreak needed?

☐ I am unsure and need wise counsel

If yes or unsure, describe what may be needed:

Part 10: Choose One Faithful Next Step

Choose one step that honors Christ and fits the situation.

My next faithful step is:

When will I take this step?

What support, wisdom, or protection do I need first?

Part 11: Closing Peacefire Prayer

Lord Jesus,
I bring this wound to You. I will not pretend it did not hurt. I will not call evil good. But I also do not want offense to become my home. I release personal vengeance to You. I ask You to cleanse me from bitterness, gossip, revenge, accusation, and coldness. Give me wisdom for boundaries, courage for truth, humility for confession, and grace to forgive as one who has been forgiven. Lead me out of the trap and back to the Peacefire. Amen.
