🎥 Video 12B: The Jesus Mindset and a Sustainable Practice

Hi, I am Haley Steiner, a CLI presenter.

This course is taught by Professor Brian DeCook.

A Peacefire Ministry Practice must be sustainable.

Many Christian leaders begin with compassion. They want to help. They want to be available. They want to serve people in pain. That desire is good.

But compassion without limits can become exhaustion.

Availability without boundaries can become dependency.

Urgency without discernment can become Strangefire.

A sustainable Peacefire practice is not built on the minister’s need to be needed. It is built on the Jesus Mindset.

Philippians 2 tells believers to have the mind of Christ. Jesus humbled Himself. He served. He obeyed. He did not grasp for status. He did not use power for self-exaltation. His life was shaped by surrender to the Father.

The Jesus Mindset teaches the Peacefire Coach Minister how to serve without becoming the center.

This matters because conflict ministry can pull the minister into many roles.

One person wants a counselor.

Another wants a judge.

Another wants a mediator.

Another wants a pastor.

Another wants a legal advisor.

Another wants a friend who will agree with them.

Another wants someone available at all hours.

The Jesus Mindset helps the minister say, “I will serve faithfully, but I am not the Savior.”

That sentence is deeply freeing.

A sustainable practice needs clear scheduling. It needs communication boundaries. It needs referral pathways. It needs oversight. It needs documentation habits. It needs prayer. It needs rest. It needs humility.

The minister should know:

How many sessions can I offer each week?

When do I answer messages?

What is my process for urgent concerns?

Who provides oversight?

When do I refer?

How do I keep notes?

How do I evaluate the practice?

How do I notice when I am becoming over-involved?

Sustainability is not selfish. It is stewardship.

If the Peacefire Coach Minister becomes exhausted, reactive, resentful, or proud, the practice itself can begin to spread Wildfire. The minister may rush people, take sides, avoid referral, overpromise, or use spiritual language to justify control.

The Jesus Mindset calls the minister back to humble obedience.

Jesus said in John 5:30, “I can of myself do nothing.” He lived in perfect dependence on the Father. Peacefire Ministry must be shaped by that same reliance.

A sustainable practice is not a weak practice. It is a faithful practice.

It says:

I will listen well.

I will pray by permission.

I will ask wise questions.

I will use Scripture carefully.

I will help people discern next steps.

I will refer when needed.

I will not promise what only God can do.

I will return to Christ when I feel pressure to perform.

As you prepare your final portfolio, do not only build services. Build rhythms that will keep you faithful.

The Peacefire Coach Minister does not simply launch a ministry. The minister practices a way of life.

That way of life is the Jesus Mindset: humble obedience and relentless reliance on Christ.
