Worksheet 2.4 — Change, Loss, Meaning, Response, Support, and Next Step

Divorce Recovery Growth Course — Topic 2: Layered Loss, Grief Waves, and Stabilization

Purpose

This worksheet helps you name layered loss, notice grief waves, and create a simple seven-day stabilization plan. You do not need to solve your whole life today. The goal is to slow down, tell the truth, seek wise support, and choose one faithful next step.

Private Worksheet Note: This worksheet is private by default. You are not required to upload it or show it to a leader. You may share selected insights in a ministry conversation if you choose.

1. Pause and Pray

Before answering, take a slow breath. Place both feet on the floor if that helps. You may pause, skip a question, or stop if this becomes too much.

Opening Prayer

Lord Jesus,
meet me with truth and mercy.
Help me name what has changed without being swallowed by it.
Show me what needs grief, what needs support, what needs protection, and what needs one faithful step.
Give me wisdom for the next seven days.
Amen.

Grounding Question

My Three Most Pressing Losses Right Now

One Loss Others May Not See

Change

What has changed?

Loss

What has been lost, disrupted, or made harder?

Meaning

What am I believing about myself, God, others, church, family, or the future because of this loss?

Examples:
“I failed.”
“I am alone.”
“I do not belong anymore.”
“My future is gone.”
“God is far away.”
“I cannot trust myself.”

My current meaning statement:

Response

What am I doing, avoiding, fearing, or considering because of this?

Is this response helping me, hurting me, or both?

Support

Who or what is helping me carry this?

Safe people, pastors, counselors, attorneys, physicians, financial advisers, support groups, family members, friends, church community, prayer rhythms, or practical routines may belong here.

Next Step

What is one realistic and faithful action I can take?

What must I entrust to God today?
