Video 9C: Habits, Support, and Sustainable Progress

Hi, I am Haley Steiner, a CLI presenter.

This course is taught by Rev. Henry Reyenga and Attorney/Pastor Brian DeCook.

In this video, we are looking at habits, support, and sustainable progress.

When life has been disrupted, it is natural to want a complete reset. You may want a new routine, a new budget, a new home rhythm, a new spiritual life, a new health plan, and a new sense of purpose all at once.

But rebuilding after divorce usually happens through small faithful steps repeated over time.

Galatians 6:9 says, “Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season if we do not give up.” That verse is tender because it recognizes weariness. God does not shame the weary. He strengthens them.

Sustainable progress is different from panic progress. Panic progress says, “I have to fix everything now.” Sustainable progress says, “With God’s help, I can take the next faithful step.”

One way to begin is to create a seven-day rhythm.

For seven days, choose one spiritual practice, one body-care practice, one practical task, and one support contact.

Your spiritual practice may be a short morning prayer, one psalm before bed, or five minutes of silence with God.

Your body-care practice may be drinking water, taking a walk, preparing simple food, or creating a calmer bedtime routine.

Your practical task may be sorting mail, making one phone call, organizing one document, checking one bill, or setting one appointment.

Your support contact may be texting a trusted friend, speaking with a pastor, meeting with a life coach or chaplain, scheduling counseling, calling an attorney, asking a financial professional a question, or joining a healthy support group.

Support matters because divorce recovery can become isolating. You were not created to carry every burden alone. Galatians 6 says to bear one another’s burdens, and also says each person has a load to carry. Both are true. Some responsibilities are yours. Some burdens should be shared.

Philippians 4 teaches contentment and strength in Christ. That strength does not mean pretending everything is easy. It means Christ can meet you in the real conditions of your life.

This week’s worksheet will help you complete a twelve-domain plan and a seven-day rhythm. The goal is not perfection. The goal is wise, prayerful movement.

Reflection question: What small habit, repeated for seven days, could bring more stability to your life?

Gentle next step: Choose one spiritual practice, one body-care practice, one practical task, and one support contact for the next week.
