Video 1B: Grace Before Pressure

In this session, we are focusing on grace before pressure.

Many single mothers live with a long list of pressures. Provide for your children. Keep the house running. Manage school forms. Answer messages. Make decisions. Deal with family opinions. Handle church expectations. Navigate a former spouse, a child’s father, or another complicated relationship. Stay strong. Stay calm. Stay spiritual. Keep going.

That is a lot for one heart to carry.

Sometimes the pressure comes from outside. People may make assumptions about your story. They may speak carelessly about single mothers. They may judge what they do not understand. They may offer advice before they offer compassion.

Sometimes the pressure comes from inside. You may think, “I should have known better.” “I should be further along.” “I should not feel lonely.” “I should not need help.” “I should be able to do this by myself.”

But Jesus does not begin with crushing pressure. He says in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Notice what Jesus does not say. He does not say, “Come to me after you have solved everything.” He does not say, “Come to me when your home is peaceful, your finances are perfect, your emotions are calm, and your relationships are uncomplicated.” He says, “Come to me.”

Grace does not mean your responsibilities disappear. Grace means you do not carry them alone, and you do not carry them as a condemned woman.

Grace gives you room to tell the truth. You can say, “I am tired.” You can say, “I love my children, and this is hard.” You can say, “I need help.” You can say, “I made mistakes, and I am still loved by Christ.” You can say, “Someone harmed me, and that was not okay.” You can say, “I hope for a good future, but I need wisdom.”

Grace also gives you strength to take responsibility without drowning in shame. Shame says, “You are the failure.” Grace says, “In Christ, you can face what is real and take one faithful step.”

This week, you are not being asked to fix your whole life. You are being invited to begin with Christ. Let Him meet you as a mother, as a woman, as a disciple, and as His beloved daughter.

Reflection question: What pressure have you been carrying that Jesus is inviting you to bring to Him?

Gentle next step: Write one sentence that begins, “Lord, I am carrying…”
