Bible Study 3.5: Chosen, Loved, and Called

Aim

This Bible study helps participants receive their identity in Christ as beloved daughters of God, entrusted mothers, and God-designed women. It invites each woman to reject false labels, remember that belonging comes before proving, and walk forward with hope, self-respect, and faithful calling.

Opening Prayer

Lord Jesus, open my heart to Your Word. Help me hear Your voice above shame, fear, rejection, pressure, and painful labels. Remind me that I belong to You. Teach me to live as a beloved daughter of God, a faithful mother, and a God-designed woman called to walk in grace, wisdom, and hope. Amen.

Creation: Made by God and Known by God

From the beginning, human beings are created by God with purpose, worth, and calling. A woman’s value does not begin with marital status, public approval, sexual history, motherhood status, financial stability, or relationship success.

Genesis 1:27 teaches that God created human beings in His image. Psalm 139 reminds us that God knows and forms each person with care. Ephesians 2:10 says believers are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works.

This means a Christian single mother is not an accident, a category, or a problem to be solved. She is a woman created by God, known by God, and invited to live from Christ-centered identity.

Her life may include hardship, grief, and responsibility, but her deepest name begins with God’s creative love.

Creation teaches:

  • you are made by God

  • your body is not shameful

  • your womanhood is God-designed

  • your motherhood matters

  • your life has purpose

  • your story is seen by God

  • your worth is not created by another person’s approval

Fall: False Labels, Shame, and Divided Identity

Sin and brokenness distort identity.

After the fall, people hide, blame, fear, use power wrongly, wound one another, abandon responsibility, and carry shame. Many single mothers know the pain of this brokenness personally.

False labels may come through:

  • abandonment

  • divorce

  • widowhood

  • unplanned pregnancy

  • betrayal

  • abuse

  • family criticism

  • church judgment

  • poverty

  • exhaustion

  • public forms and systems

  • an inconsistent child’s father

  • an accusing inner voice

A false label may describe a painful circumstance, but it cannot tell the whole truth.

A woman may be single, but she is not alone in Christ.

A woman may be divorced, but she is not discarded by God.

A woman may have been abandoned, but she is not unwanted.

A woman may be tired, but she is not a failure.

A woman may need help, but she is not weak.

A woman may have made mistakes, but she is not beyond grace.

The fall teaches us why shame feels powerful. Redemption teaches us why shame does not get the final word.

Redemption in Christ: Beloved, New, and Called

Romans 8:1 declares, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”

This is not a small comfort. It is a foundation for Christian identity.

In Christ, condemnation is not your home. Shame is not your name. Rejection is not your identity. Fear is not your master.

Romans 8:15–17 teaches that believers receive the Spirit of adoption. In Christ, we belong to the Father. This means belonging comes before proving.

Second Corinthians 5:17 teaches that anyone in Christ is a new creation. This does not erase the past or remove all consequences. It means the past no longer has final authority over who you are becoming.

Colossians 3:1–4 teaches that your life is hidden with Christ in God. This gives a single mother a deeper identity than what others see, assume, criticize, or misunderstand.

Ephesians 2:10 teaches that believers are created in Christ Jesus for good works. This means your calling continues in a changed life.

Your calling may begin this week with one faithful step:

  • praying with your child

  • asking for support

  • speaking truth without cruelty

  • setting a wise boundary

  • receiving help without shame

  • caring for your body with self-respect

  • attending worship again

  • writing a Christian hope statement

  • refusing to let a painful relationship name you

  • remembering that you are a beloved daughter of God

Redemption in Christ does not say, “Pretend everything is fine.”

Redemption says, “You are held by Christ while you face what is real.”

Bible Reflection

Read Romans 8:15–17 slowly.

Notice the word adoption.

Adoption means belonging. It means the believer is welcomed into the Father’s love through Christ. This is not earned by perfect parenting, perfect finances, perfect emotional stability, or a perfect past.

Now consider how this truth speaks to single motherhood.

A single mother may feel like she must prove herself everywhere.

She may feel she must prove she is a good mother.

She may feel she must prove she is still a respectable woman.

She may feel she must prove she is strong enough.

She may feel she must prove she is not a burden.

She may feel she must prove her children will be okay.

But Romans 8 speaks a deeper word: You belong before you prove.

Belonging does not remove responsibility. It changes the spirit in which responsibility is carried.

A woman rooted in Christ can take responsibility without self-hatred. She can ask for help without losing self-respect. She can grieve without despair. She can parent without pretending. She can hope without desperation.

Now read Ephesians 2:10.

The phrase “created in Christ Jesus for good works” reminds us that calling continues even in a changed life.

God’s work in you is not canceled by single motherhood. Your family structure may be different than you expected. Your responsibilities may be heavy. Your future may feel unclear. But Christ is still forming faithful life in you.

You are chosen in Christ.

You are loved by the Father.

You are called to walk forward in grace.

Single Mother Growth Connection

Topic 3 is about identity in Christ as a mother and God-designed woman.

This Bible study connects directly to that growth.

Single motherhood can make a woman feel reduced to one part of her life. But Scripture gives a fuller picture.

You are not merely a marital status.

You are not merely the missing line on a form.

You are not merely the woman who has to handle everything.

You are not merely the person others misunderstand.

You are a beloved daughter of God.

You are a mother entrusted with love and responsibility.

You are a God-designed woman with a body, soul, mind, voice, gifts, boundaries, emotions, hopes, and calling.

You are invited to grow in Organic Christian Womanhood: womanhood that grows from life in Christ rather than fear, shame, bitterness, desperation, or performance.

This means you can live with:

  • confidence around men without chasing approval

  • boundaries without bitterness

  • sexual self-care without shame

  • motherhood without loss of womanhood

  • responsibility without self-condemnation

  • hope without fantasy

  • faith without pretending everything is easy

Your identity in Christ becomes the steady place from which you love your children, seek support, relate to others, and take your next faithful step.

Discussion Questions

What false label has tried to name you in this season?

Which Scripture passage in this study speaks most directly to that label?

What does it mean to you that belonging in Christ comes before proving?

How can a single mother take responsibility without living under shame?

Where do you need to remember that motherhood does not erase God-designed womanhood?

How might your identity in Christ help you relate to men with more wisdom, confidence, and self-respect?

What is one faithful step that reflects your calling in this season?

Personal or Group Practice

Practice: Chosen, Loved, and Called Statement

Complete these three sentences:

In Christ, I am chosen because:

In Christ, I am loved even when:

In Christ, I am called this week to:

Now combine those thoughts into one short statement.

Example:

“In Christ, I am chosen by God, loved even when life feels unfinished, and called this week to parent with grace, ask for support, and reject the false label of shame.”

My statement:

Keep this statement private, or share only what you freely choose to share with a trusted person.

Leader Guidance

Leaders should keep this study warm, safe, and participant-centered.

Do not ask participants to tell their full story. Do not pressure anyone to disclose legal, sexual, relational, financial, or traumatic details. Do not turn the discussion into advice about custody, dating, reconciliation, or remarriage.

Helpful leader questions include:

  • What truth from Scripture feels important today?

  • What false label needs to be answered with grace and truth?

  • What support would help you live from this identity?

  • What one faithful step feels realistic this week?

Leaders should affirm that identity in Christ does not deny pain, minimize responsibility, or remove the need for wise boundaries and qualified help.

Safety Note

This Bible study is for Christian growth, reflection, and ministry support. It is not counseling, legal advice, medical care, sex therapy, custody guidance, trauma treatment, or crisis intervention.

Identity in Christ should never be used to pressure a participant into unsafe contact, quick reconciliation, silence, rushed forgiveness, dating, remarriage, or ignoring legal or professional guidance.

If there are concerns involving abuse, coercive control, stalking, threats, sexual assault, child safety, self-harm, serious depression, housing crisis, or medical danger, seek appropriate emergency, pastoral, professional, legal, or crisis support.

A woman can be chosen, loved, and called in Christ while also needing protection, treatment, advocacy, boundaries, and practical help.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You that in Jesus Christ I am chosen, loved, and called. Thank You that shame does not get to name me. Thank You that my marital status, past pain, present pressure, and public labels are not my deepest identity. Help me live as Your beloved daughter, a faithful mother, and a God-designed woman. Teach me to love my children with grace, receive support with self-respect, relate to others with wisdom, and walk forward in hope. Amen.
