Video 4A: Parenting as Daily Discipleship

Hi, I am Haley Steiner, a CLI presenter.

This course is taught by Rev. Henry Reyenga and Attorney/Pastor Brian DeCook.

Single motherhood can make parenting feel heavy. You may be managing meals, school, work, emotions, discipline, bills, rides, and bedtime mostly on your own. Some days you may wonder, “Am I doing enough? Am I failing them? Are they going to be okay?”

This topic begins with grace. Parenting is not about becoming a perfect mother. Parenting is a daily discipleship calling. It is the steady work of loving, guiding, correcting, listening, praying, apologizing, and beginning again.

In Deuteronomy 6, God’s people are told to speak of His ways in ordinary daily life: when sitting at home, walking along the road, lying down, and getting up. That picture matters. Faith formation does not happen only in quiet rooms, church services, or perfect family moments. It happens around breakfast. It happens during school drop-off. It happens when a child cries, argues, asks a hard question, or needs a hug.

Jesus welcomed children. In Mark 10, when others treated children as interruptions, Jesus received them. That tells every single mother something important: your children matter to God. Their questions matter. Their fears matter. Their future matters. And your work of loving them matters.

Daily discipleship includes teaching truth. It also includes showing them what repentance looks like. A mother can say, “I spoke too sharply. I am sorry.” That is not weakness. That is Christian leadership in the home.

Daily discipleship includes structure. Children need rhythms, limits, affection, and clear expectations. Grace does not mean chaos. Grace means your home can become a place where truth and love meet.

You do not have to solve your child’s whole life this week. You can start with one faithful rhythm: a bedtime prayer, a calmer morning routine, a regular meal, a short Bible verse, a listening moment, or a weekly check-in.

Your motherhood is not erased by hardship. You are a God-designed woman and mother, called to love your children with courage, wisdom, and hope.

Reflection question: What ordinary moment in your home could become a small discipleship moment this week?

Gentle next step: Choose one simple parenting rhythm to practice for the next seven days.
