Video 7C: Hope Without Pretending

Christian hope is not pretending.

Hope does not say, “Everything is fine,” when everything is not fine. Hope does not deny grief. Hope does not silence loneliness. Hope does not rush anger underground. Hope does not force a smile so other people feel comfortable.

Christian hope says, “God is still present. God is still faithful. God is still working. I can take one faithful step today.”

Romans 15:13 says, “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Hope comes from God. It is not something you have to manufacture through pressure, performance, or positive thinking.

For a single mother, hope may look very practical.

Hope may be getting the children ready for school after a hard night. Hope may be calling one trusted friend. Hope may be making a simple meal. Hope may be choosing not to send the angry text. Hope may be going to church even when you feel awkward. Hope may be asking for help before everything breaks down.

Hope may also mean admitting, “I need more support than I have.”

That is not failure. That is wisdom.

Sometimes loneliness makes a woman hurry. She may hurry into a relationship, hurry into overexplaining, hurry into trusting someone too soon, or hurry into giving access to her heart because she wants comfort.

This course honors your desire for love, affection, companionship, and a future life partner. Those desires are not shameful. But hope is patient enough to move with wisdom.

You are a God-designed woman. Your motherhood does not erase your womanhood. Your grief does not erase your beauty. Your loneliness does not erase your calling. Your past does not erase your future in Christ.

This week’s practice is not to fix every feeling. The practice is to bring feelings to God, name them honestly, seek wise support, and choose one hope-filled step.

You can grieve and still hope. You can feel lonely and still walk with self-respect. You can feel angry and still choose wisdom. You can be tired and still be held by Christ.

Reflection question: What would hope look like this week without pretending everything is solved?

Gentle next step: Choose one small hope practice, such as prayer, rest, calling a trusted person, taking a walk, reading a Psalm, or asking for practical help.
