Video Transcript: Noticing the Inner Conversation With Grace
Video 1C: Noticing the Inner Conversation With Grace
In this lesson, we practice noticing the inner conversation with grace.
Many people do not notice their inner scripts until those scripts have already shaped the day.
A person may feel heavy, anxious, ashamed, angry, tempted, or discouraged and not realize that an inward sentence has been running for hours.
This course teaches a simple first movement: pause.
Pause before agreeing with the sentence inside you.
Then notice.
What am I saying to myself right now?
Try to write the exact sentence.
Not a polished sentence.
Not a spiritual sentence.
Not the sentence you think you should have.
The real sentence.
Maybe it is:
“I am alone.”
“I cannot handle this.”
“I always mess things up.”
“I have to prove myself.”
“I will never be free.”
“I do not matter.”
“I need this sin to feel better.”
“I cannot forgive.”
“I am not safe.”
“I am too tired to hope.”
Once you notice the sentence, name what is happening without shame.
This is fear.
This is shame.
This is grief.
This is temptation.
This is bitterness.
This is overthinking.
This is a trauma echo.
This is a nighttime worry loop.
Naming is not condemning. Naming helps you bring the truth into the light.
Then ask: Is this sentence fully true before God?
Some inner sentences contain real pain, but they draw false conclusions.
“I was hurt” may be true.
“I will always be controlled by what happened” is not the whole truth in Christ.
“I sinned” may be true.
“I am beyond grace” is not the gospel.
“I feel afraid” may be true.
“God has abandoned me” is not the promise of Scripture.
This week’s worksheet will help you begin an inner conversation inventory. Keep it private. Be honest. Be gentle. You are not taking a test. You are learning to notice what Christ wants to renew.
End with this prayer:
Holy Spirit, help me notice without shame. Help me name what is happening. Help me welcome Scripture into my inner conversation. Help me take one faithful step with Jesus Christ. Amen.
