Video 2C: Practicing the WELCOME Tool

In this video, we will practice the WELCOME Tool.

The WELCOME Tool helps you invite Scripture and the Holy Spirit into your inner conversation.

WELCOME is a simple word to remember.

W: Wake up to the inner conversation.

Ask, “What sentence is running inside me right now?”

Maybe the sentence is, “I cannot handle this.” Maybe it is, “God is disappointed in me.” Maybe it is, “I have to control everything.” Maybe it is, “Nothing will ever change.”

Do not shame yourself for noticing the sentence. Just notice it.

E: Examine it before God.

Ask, “Is this truth, fear, shame, temptation, bitterness, despair, or wisdom?”

Some sentences contain a little truth but become distorted. “I made a mistake” may be true. “I am a mistake” is not true before God.

L: Locate the pressure in your organic human life.

Ask, “Where do I feel this spiritually, physically, emotionally, relationally, practically, or habitually?”

You may feel tightness in your chest, heaviness in your spirit, anger toward someone, a desire to hide, or an urge to escape.

You are an organic human. Your soul and body are connected before God.

C: Call Scripture into the conversation.

Ask, “What has God said that belongs here?”

You may remember Psalm 46:1: “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

You may remember Romans 8:1: “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”

You may remember 2 Corinthians 5:17: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.”

O: Open to the Holy Spirit.

Pray, “Holy Spirit, what are You inviting me to receive, resist, confess, release, or practice?”

M: Move with one faithful step.

This step may be small. Take a breath. Pray honestly. Open Scripture. Apologize. Drink water. Text a safe support person. Walk away from temptation. Write one truthful sentence.

E: Entrust the outcome to Christ.

Say, “Lord Jesus, I give You what I cannot control.”

The WELCOME Tool is not magic. It is practice.

Over time, you are learning a new way to respond to the conversation inside you.

You are welcoming Scripture.

You are welcoming the Holy Spirit.

You are learning to walk in truth, grace, and new creation hope.
