Worksheet 6.4: Safety, Truth, and Support Reflection

Private Participant Worksheet

This worksheet is private by default.

You are not required to upload it, share it with a group, or describe abuse, threats, trauma, medical information, legal matters, sexual experiences, private messages, or identifying details.

You may complete this worksheet without naming another person or explaining what happened.

The purpose is to help you:

  • notice an inner sentence shaped by fear or false self-blame

  • separate your responsibility from another person’s responsibility

  • welcome Scripture and the Holy Spirit

  • identify appropriate support

  • form a safety-aware truth statement

  • choose one safe and faithful next step

This worksheet provides Christian reflection and discipleship support. It is not counseling, trauma treatment, legal advice, medical care, abuse investigation, emergency intervention, or a substitute for qualified professional help.

If you or another person is in immediate danger, contact emergency services or qualified local assistance.

Do not confront a dangerous person alone. Follow applicable laws, court orders, mandatory-reporting requirements, safety plans, and professional guidance.

Opening Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are full of grace and truth.

Help me notice the inward sentences shaped by fear, shame, confusion, manipulation, or false responsibility.

Give me wisdom to recognize what belongs to me and what does not belong to me.

Holy Spirit, guide me toward truth, wise protection, appropriate support, and one safe and faithful step.

Remind me that I do not need to solve everything today.

You are the God who sees me.

Amen.

Movement One: Pause and Pray

1. Become Present Before God

Pause without forcing yourself to remember or explain painful details.

Notice your surroundings.

Name three things you can see:

Notice where your body is supported by the chair, floor, bed, or ground.

Take a slow breath if that feels comfortable and safe.

Complete this prayer:

Lord Jesus, right now I need Your help with:

2. Give Yourself Permission to Stop

You may pause or stop this worksheet at any time.

Place a check beside any statement that would help you proceed safely:

☐ I can complete this worksheet without describing what happened.

☐ I can skip any question that feels unhelpful or overwhelming.

☐ I can return to this worksheet later.

☐ I can contact a safe support person before continuing.

☐ I can complete only the sections that are useful today.

☐ I can destroy or securely store this worksheet if privacy is a concern.

☐ I do not have to make a major decision while completing this worksheet.

Write one permission statement for yourself:

I give myself permission to:

3. Check for Immediate Safety Needs

You do not need to describe the situation.

Which statement best fits your present concern?

☐ I do not believe there is immediate danger.

☐ I am uncertain whether there is immediate danger.

☐ I believe I or another person may currently be unsafe.

☐ A child or vulnerable person may be at risk.

☐ There are threats, stalking, violence, coercion, or escalating behavior.

☐ There is a court order, required safety procedure, or reporting obligation involved.

☐ I prefer not to answer.

When immediate danger or serious risk may be present, pause this worksheet and seek qualified local assistance.

A person, organization, or emergency resource I could contact is:

Do not place this information where an unsafe person may discover it.

Movement Two: Notice and Name

4. Notice the Inner Sentence

Write one sentence that has been repeating inside you.

Do not include names, events, or identifying details.

Examples:

I should have prevented it.

It was probably my fault.

I have to fix everything.

No one will believe me.

Setting a boundary makes me unforgiving.

A faithful Christian would give the person immediate access.

I must keep everyone calm.

My inner sentence is:

5. Name What the Sentence Produces

When you believe this sentence, what does it tend to produce?

Check all that apply:

☐ fear

☐ shame

☐ guilt

☐ confusion

☐ grief

☐ anger

☐ numbness

☐ hopelessness

☐ pressure to remain silent

☐ pressure to apologize

☐ pressure to return to an unsafe situation

☐ pressure to restore trust quickly

☐ pressure to meet privately

☐ pressure to protect another person’s reputation

☐ difficulty praying

☐ difficulty sleeping

☐ isolation

☐ physical tension

☐ racing thoughts

☐ another response:

This inner sentence leads me toward:

6. Locate the Pressure in Your Organic Human Life

You are an embodied soul. An inner script can affect spiritual, physical, emotional, relational, and practical life.

Complete only what is helpful.

Spiritually

This sentence affects my relationship with God by:

Physically

I notice the pressure in my body through:

Emotionally

The strongest feelings connected to this sentence are:

Relationally

This sentence affects my relationships by:

Practically

This sentence affects my decisions, concentration, sleep, work, finances, communication, or daily routines by:

7. Name the Beneath-the-Surface Script

Sometimes one sentence rests on a deeper belief.

Examples:

I am responsible for keeping everyone calm.

If someone is upset, I must have done something wrong.

If I ask for help, I am betraying someone.

If I forgive, I must restore access.

If I were stronger, I would not have been harmed.

God expects me to endure anything without protection.

The deeper belief beneath my inner sentence may be:

8. Separate Regret From Responsibility

Read each statement carefully.

Regret says:
I wish I had responded differently.

Healthy responsibility says:
I can examine my choices and take responsibility for what is truly mine.

False self-blame says:
Another person’s abusive, coercive, threatening, exploitative, or harmful choice was caused by me.

Complete the following without describing the event.

A choice or response I may want to understand more clearly is:

What I am genuinely responsible for is:

What I may be blaming myself for, even though it involved another person’s choice, is:

A truthful distinction I need to remember is:

9. Examine the Inner Sentence Before God

Ask the following questions:

Did I choose the other person’s behavior?

☐ Yes
☐ No
☐ Unsure
☐ Not applicable

Am I judging my past self using information I learned later?

☐ Yes
☐ No
☐ Possibly

Did I have the freedom, knowledge, power, maturity, resources, or support that I now imagine I should have had?

☐ Yes
☐ No
☐ Only partly
☐ Unsure

Am I confusing a survival response with willing agreement?

☐ Yes
☐ No
☐ Possibly
☐ Not applicable

Am I confusing forgiveness with restored trust or access?

☐ Yes
☐ No
☐ Possibly
☐ Not applicable

Does this sentence pressure me toward secrecy, isolation, or danger?

☐ Yes
☐ No
☐ Unsure

Is this sentence protecting truth and safety, or protecting someone’s power, access, or reputation?

10. Name What Is True

Complete these statements:

It is true that I am responsible for:

It is also true that I am not responsible for:

A regret does not automatically mean:

A survival response does not automatically mean:

A boundary does not automatically mean:

Forgiveness does not automatically require:

Movement Three: Welcome Scripture and the Holy Spirit

11. Choose a Scripture for This Conversation

Select one or more passages.

☐ Genesis 16:13
“You are a God who sees.”

“Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.”

☐ Psalm 46:1

☐ Psalm 82:3–4
“Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless. Maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy.”

☐ Proverbs 22:3
“A prudent man sees danger and hides himself, but the simple pass on and suffer for it.”

☐ John 8:32
“You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

Love “doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth.”

☐ 1 Peter 5:7
“Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.”

☐ Another passage:

The Scripture truth I want to welcome is:

12. Listen With Discernment

Prayerfully ask:

Holy Spirit, what are You inviting me to receive, reject, confess, release, or practice?

Receive

What truth, grace, comfort, or courage may God be inviting you to receive?

Reject

What false blame, condemnation, manipulation, or destructive belief may need to be rejected?

Confess

Is there something that truly belongs to you that you want to confess without accepting responsibility for someone else’s behavior?

Release

What outcome, reputation, reaction, or person do you need to entrust to Christ?

Practice

What truth or wise action may need to become part of your daily practice?

13. Complete the WELCOME Tool

W: Wake Up to the Inner Conversation

The sentence running inside me is:

E: Examine It Before God

The part that is true is:

The part that is distorted, condemning, incomplete, or unsafe is:

L: Locate the Pressure

I notice this spiritually, physically, emotionally, relationally, or practically through:

C: Call Scripture Into the Conversation

The Scripture truth that belongs here is:

O: Open to the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit, help me:

M: Move With One Faithful Step

One safe and faithful action may be:

E: Entrust the Outcome to Christ

Lord Jesus, I entrust to You:

14. Form a Safety-Aware Truth Statement

A helpful truth statement should be:

  • grounded in Scripture

  • honest about reality

  • free from false condemnation

  • clear about responsibility

  • supportive of wisdom and safety

  • short enough to remember

Possible examples:

What happened was real, and the harmful choice belonged to the person who made it.

I can regret a response without accepting blame for another person’s actions.

My fear, confusion, freezing, compliance, or delayed response does not make me responsible for being harmed.

God sees me and is near to the brokenhearted.

I am responsible for my choices, not for controlling another person’s choices.

I can pursue a forgiving heart without restoring unsafe access.

Trust may require truth, responsibility, changed behavior, and time.

I can hope for another person’s redemption without making myself responsible for producing it.

A boundary can serve truth, wisdom, and protection.

Asking for qualified help is a faithful action.

I do not have to make every decision today.

My safety-aware truth statement is:

Write a shorter version that you can remember:

15. Distinguish Forgiveness, Trust, Reconciliation, and Access

Complete the following statements.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness means surrendering personal vengeance to God.

Forgiveness does not require me to:

Trust

Trust is strengthened through truthfulness, responsibility, consistent behavior, and time.

Before increased trust would be wise, evidence of change may need to include:

Reconciliation

Reconciliation requires truthful and willing participation from more than one person.

Reconciliation cannot be created by:

Access

Access concerns the level of contact another person has with me, my information, my home, my time, my finances, my family, or my ministry.

A safety-aware limit on access may include:

Do not establish or change a safety boundary based only on this worksheet when qualified professional or legal guidance is needed.

Different forms of support serve different purposes.

Check any roles that may be appropriate.

Emergency Support

☐ emergency services

☐ crisis-response service

☐ safe emergency contact

☐ immediate safe location

The type of support that appears most appropriate is:

17. Evaluate a Possible Helper

A safe helper should understand the limits of the helper’s role.

Place a check beside the qualities you need.

☐ listens without demanding unnecessary details

☐ does not blame me for another person’s harmful behavior

☐ explains confidentiality and its limits

☐ respects applicable reporting responsibilities

☐ does not force confrontation

☐ does not pressure immediate reconciliation

☐ takes threats, violence, stalking, or coercion seriously

☐ recognizes professional and legal limits

☐ supports reasonable boundaries

☐ makes appropriate referrals

☐ respects privacy and consent

☐ does not protect an institution’s reputation over vulnerable people

A concern that would cause me to seek another helper is:

18. Build a Support Circle

What safe person or resource can support you?

What will you do if pressure increases?

22. Create a Brief Support and Referral Plan

☐ Yes

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are my refuge and strength.

Thank You that You see what others may not see. Thank You that You are near to the brokenhearted and that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Help me take responsibility for what is truly mine without carrying another person’s harmful choices as though they were my own.

Free me from false self-blame, spiritual manipulation, secrecy, and shame.

Give me wisdom to distinguish forgiveness from restored trust, reconciliation from forced contact, and Christian peace from appeasement.

Holy Spirit, lead me toward wise support and truthful protection. Give me courage to ask for help, humility to receive guidance, and patience to take one faithful step at a time.

Protect children, vulnerable people, and anyone facing present danger. Guide counselors, advocates, pastors, medical professionals, legal professionals, and authorities who serve those in need.

I release the outcomes I cannot control.

Help me walk in truth, wisdom, grace, and safety.

Amen.
