Worksheet 7.4: Faithful Agency and New Creation Choice Plan

Purpose

This private worksheet will help you:

  • acknowledge a wound, disappointment, injustice, or difficult circumstance truthfully

  • identify a powerless inner script

  • separate what belongs to God, what belongs to others, and what belongs to you

  • release false guilt and misplaced responsibility

  • welcome Scripture and the Holy Spirit into your inner conversation

  • choose one truthful, wise, realistic, and safe next step

  • create a faithful agency statement for your Resilient Self-Conversation Portfolio

You do not need to describe private trauma, abuse details, medical information, legal information, or identifying information.

This worksheet is private by default. You should not be required to upload it or share it with a group leader.

Movement One: Pause and Pray

Find a place where you can reflect without unnecessary pressure.

Place your feet on the floor if you are able.

Take several slow breaths.

You do not need to solve your entire situation during this exercise.

Pray:

Lord Jesus, You know what happened, what still hurts, and what remains unfinished. Help me tell the truth without denial, false guilt, bitterness, or despair. Show me what belongs to You, what belongs to other people, and what responsibility belongs to me. Holy Spirit, guide me toward one truthful, wise, and safe step. Amen.

A Gentle Starting Check

What best describes how you feel as you begin?

☐ Calm enough to reflect
☐ Sad or discouraged
☐ Angry or resentful
☐ Afraid or uncertain
☐ Ashamed or blamed
☐ Confused about my responsibility
☐ Pressured to fix something I cannot control
☐ Unsure what to do next
☐ Other: ____________________________________________

What might help you remain grounded while completing this worksheet?

☐ Slow breathing
☐ A glass of water
☐ A short walk
☐ Keeping the reflection brief
☐ Having a safe person nearby
☐ Completing the worksheet at another time
☐ Seeking qualified support
☐ Other: ____________________________________________

Movement Two: Notice and Name

1. Name the Situation Without Giving Unnecessary Details

Write a short, factual description of the situation.

Avoid trying to explain every detail, prove your case, or determine another person’s hidden motives.

The situation I am reflecting on is:

2. Name the Real Harm, Loss, or Difficulty

What was painful, unjust, disappointing, frightening, or outside your control?

What happened or what I lost was:

3. Name the Inner Conversation

What sentence do you repeat when you think about this situation?

Examples:

  • “Nothing I do will matter.”

  • “My life will never improve.”

  • “Everything was my fault.”

  • “I cannot move forward until they apologize.”

  • “I have no meaningful choices.”

  • “If I try again, I will only be hurt again.”

  • “I must fix this by myself.”

  • “Their rejection proves that I have no value.”

The sentence running inside me is:

“__________________________________________________________.”

4. Name What the Sentence Produces

What does this inner sentence tend to produce?

☐ Fear
☐ Shame
☐ Anger
☐ Bitterness
☐ Despair
☐ Isolation
☐ Avoidance
☐ Compulsive apologizing
☐ Attempts to control others
☐ Refusal to try again
☐ Difficulty trusting anyone
☐ Passivity
☐ Unsafe action
☐ Other: ____________________________________________

One way this script affects my present life is:

5. Identify Extreme or Permanent Words

Does your inner sentence contain words such as these?

☐ Always
☐ Never
☐ Everyone
☐ No one
☐ Nothing
☐ Impossible
☐ Ruined
☐ Trapped
☐ Helpless
☐ Hopeless

The word that makes my situation sound permanent or universal is:

6. Separate Explanation From Identity

Complete these statements:

This experience may help explain why I struggle with:

This experience does not have the authority to define me as:

My deepest identity in Christ is:

Responsibility Discernment

Confusion about responsibility can produce false guilt, controlling behavior, resentment, or powerlessness.

Use the following three areas to separate responsibilities carefully.

What Belongs to God

These may include the final outcome, perfect justice, the future, another person’s hidden motives, and the timing of another person’s repentance.

What I cannot control and need to entrust to God is:

A prayer of entrustment:

Lord, I place _______________________________________________

into Your hands because _____________________________________

What Belongs to Other People

Other people remain responsible for their words, decisions, honesty, repentance, boundaries, and treatment of others.

The choices or responsibilities that belong to someone else are:

I am not responsible for making another person:

☐ Tell the truth
☐ Apologize
☐ Repent
☐ Become trustworthy
☐ Respect my boundary
☐ Understand my experience
☐ Approve of my decision
☐ Repair all the harm
☐ Change immediately
☐ Other: ____________________________________________

What Belongs to Me

Your responsibility may include your present words, actions, requests, boundaries, confessions, support choices, and next faithful step.

The responsibility that may belong to me now is:

True Conviction or False Guilt?

True Conviction

True conviction is specific and leads toward confession, grace, repair, and renewed obedience.

Is there something that is genuinely yours to confess or change?

☐ Yes
☐ No
☐ I am not sure

A specific attitude, word, action, or omission I may need to address is:

An appropriate and safe repair may be:

False Guilt

False guilt makes you responsible for something you did not cause, could not control, did not know, or did not have the authority or safety to prevent.

A responsibility I may be carrying that does not belong to me is:

A false blame sentence I need to release is:

“__________________________________________________________.”

A truthful replacement sentence is:

“__________________________________________________________.”

Movement Three: Welcome Scripture and the Holy Spirit

1. Examine the Script Before God

Return to the powerless sentence you identified:

“__________________________________________________________.”

Ask:

  • Is every part of this sentence true?

  • Does it confuse pain with identity?

  • Does it make another person the owner of my future?

  • Does it assign me responsibility for another person’s conduct?

  • Does it require another person to change before I can live faithfully?

  • Does it ignore a meaningful choice that may be available now?

The part of the sentence that is truthful is:

The part that may be distorted, exaggerated, condemning, or incomplete is:

2. Call Scripture Into the Conversation

Choose one or more passages.

New Creation

“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17

No Condemnation

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 8:1

God’s Presence

“Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.”
Psalm 34:18

Wisdom

“But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.”
James 1:5

Entrusting Worry

“Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7

God at Work

“For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.”
Philippians 2:13

Peace Within Responsible Limits

“If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.”
Romans 12:18

The Scripture I am welcoming into this situation is:

This passage reminds me that:

3. Open to the Holy Spirit

Pray:

Holy Spirit, help me receive what is true, resist what is false, confess what is mine, release what is not mine, and practice what is faithful.

What might the Holy Spirit be inviting you to do?

☐ Receive grace
☐ Release false guilt
☐ Grieve honestly
☐ Confess a specific sin
☐ Make an appropriate repair
☐ Ask for wisdom
☐ Seek qualified help
☐ Establish or maintain a boundary
☐ Stop trying to control another person
☐ Refuse retaliation
☐ Tell the truth to a safe person
☐ Care for my body
☐ Take one practical step
☐ Wait without giving up
☐ Other: ____________________________________________

4. Write a New Creation Faithful Agency Statement

Use this structure:

The reality:
What happened was real.

The limit:
It does not possess complete authority over my identity or every future choice.

The truth in Christ:
I belong to Jesus Christ and am being renewed by His grace.

The faithful agency:
With God’s help and wise support, I can take one truthful and safe step.

Complete your statement:

What happened was _________________________________________

It affected me by __________________________________________

It does not mean ___________________________________________

In Christ, I am ____________________________________________

With the help of the Holy Spirit, I can ________________________

I entrust _________________________________________________

to God.

My Short Faithful Agency Sentence

Create one sentence that you can remember when the powerless script returns.

Examples:

  • “I cannot control the whole story, but I can take one faithful step with Christ.”

  • “What happened was not my fault, and I can seek safety and wise support.”

  • “I am responsible for my choices, not for another person’s repentance.”

  • “The past affects me, but it does not own every choice I make today.”

  • “I can confess what is mine without carrying what is not mine.”

  • “Their rejection does not determine my God-designed worth.”

  • “Christ is with me in what remains unfinished.”

My Scripture-shaped faithful agency sentence is:

“__________________________________________________________.”

Movement Four: One Faithful Step

1. Name the Whole Journey

What large problem, goal, or outcome feels overwhelming?

Examples:

  • rebuild my entire life

  • repair every relationship

  • restore my career

  • become completely fearless

  • heal from everything that happened

  • solve every financial problem

  • make another person understand

  • know exactly what my future will be

The whole journey feels like:

2. Make the Step Smaller

What is one action—not the entire journey—that may belong to you now?

Possible faithful steps include:

☐ Ask a safe person for support
☐ Make an appointment
☐ Gather needed information
☐ Complete one application
☐ Write down a boundary
☐ Stop responding to harmful messages
☐ Follow an established safety plan
☐ Speak with a pastor or mature Christian leader
☐ Contact a counselor or medical professional
☐ Seek legal or advocacy guidance
☐ Report dangerous or unlawful behavior appropriately
☐ Apologize for something that is truly mine
☐ Complete one practical task
☐ Rest before making a major decision
☐ Pray and wait before responding
☐ Practice one Scripture-shaped sentence
☐ Other: ____________________________________________

My one faithful step is:

3. Make the Step Specific

What will I do?

When will I do it?

Where will I do it?

Who, if anyone, can safely support me?

What do I need to prepare?

4. Check the Step for Truth and Safety

Before acting, ask:

☐ Does this step tell the truth without unnecessary exposure?
☐ Does it respect appropriate boundaries?
☐ Does it avoid placing me or another person in danger?
☐ Does it follow any relevant safety plan, court order, law, or professional guidance?
☐ Does it avoid making me responsible for another person’s choices?
☐ Is it realistic within my present energy and resources?
☐ Is it small and specific enough to complete?
☐ Can I take this step prayerfully without demanding a particular outcome?

A possible safety concern is:

The support or adjustment needed to make the step safer is:

5. Prepare for the Old Script

What might your powerless script say when it is time to act?

“It will say: ______________________________________________.”

How will you answer it?

“I will respond: ____________________________________________.”

What will you do if fear, shame, anger, or discouragement becomes strong?

☐ Pause and pray
☐ Use the GROUND tool
☐ Repeat my Scripture-shaped sentence
☐ Contact a safe support person
☐ Make the step smaller
☐ Reschedule without abandoning the plan
☐ Seek qualified help
☐ Other: ____________________________________________

6. Entrust the Outcome

Complete this prayer:

Lord Jesus, the step that belongs to me is ______________________

The outcome I cannot control is ______________________________

Give me courage to act faithfully and grace to entrust the result to You. Amen.

After-the-Step Review

Complete this section after taking the step.

What Happened?

What Did I Learn?

What Helped Me Act Faithfully?

What Became More Difficult?

What Support Do I Still Need?

Did the Step Produce the Outcome I Wanted?

☐ Yes
☐ Partly
☐ No
☐ The outcome is still unfinished

Remember: faithful agency is not measured only by whether the outcome matched your hope.

You may have acted truthfully even if another person responded poorly.

You may have established a wise boundary even if someone became angry.

You may have applied for an opportunity and still been declined.

You may have asked for help and discovered that a different resource is needed.

The question is not only, “Did everything work?”

Also ask:

“Did I return to Christ and take the step that belonged to me?”

Safety and Support Reminder

Faithful agency does not require you to:

  • return to an abusive or unsafe relationship

  • confront an abusive, violent, or threatening person privately

  • restore trust before trustworthiness has been demonstrated

  • violate a court order, safety plan, or professional recommendation

  • disclose private trauma details

  • stop medication or professional treatment

  • carry responsibility for another person’s abuse, violence, addiction, manipulation, or refusal to repent

  • remain in danger to prove faith, forgiveness, submission, or love

  • complete this worksheet without support when the reflection feels overwhelming

When immediate danger, abuse, violence, stalking, trafficking, threats, child or vulnerable-person harm, suicidal intent, self-harm risk, medical emergency, or danger to others is present, seek immediate qualified assistance and follow applicable emergency procedures, laws, reporting obligations, and professional guidance.

This worksheet provides Christian education and private spiritual reflection. It does not replace licensed counseling, trauma treatment, medical care, psychiatric care, legal advice, domestic-violence intervention, addiction treatment, or emergency response.

Seeking qualified help may be your next faithful step.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, thank You that my identity is not limited to what happened to me. Help me acknowledge real harm without surrendering my future to it. Show me what belongs to You, what belongs to others, and what belongs to me. Free me from false guilt and give me courage to accept truthful responsibility. Renew my inner conversation through Scripture and the Holy Spirit. Guide me toward one wise and safe step. When the path remains unfinished, help me continue in new creation hope. Amen.
