BUILDING BLOCK #1
Picture a Preferred Future:

HOW TO DEVELOP A STRATEGIC PLAN

Ben Ingebretson M.Div.,M.A.
Strategic planning is important because…
…few people are eager to give to the past….your debt.

…some will be responsive to the need of the present…your planting operations needs.

…most will be engaged by a dream of the future…your planting vision!

Strategic Planning Simplified
Where are we now?

Where do we want to be?

                                       How will we get there?

2. Strategic Planning: The  Right Process

Who should join you in the process?

What are your negotiable points?

How will you communicate your plan to stakeholders and outsiders?

THE MORE YOUR PLANT GROWS THE MORE YOU NEED TO GROW “BUY IN” TO YOUR
                 PLANTING STRATEGIC PLAN!

Key Times For Strategic Planning
1.   In the beginning.   Before you have made any commitments.

2.   Annually.   As part of your budget process.

3.   After any major change….positive or negative.
What to do with your
strategic plan?
Use it weekly to set your schedule.

Use it weekly to measure progress.

Use it weekly to align resources.

Use it weekly to set priorities.

Use it often to share your vision!

Strategic planning is important because…
…few people are eager to give to the past….your debt.

…some will be responsive to the need of the present…your planting operations needs.

…most will be engaged by a dream of the future…your planting vision!

BUILDING BLOCK #2

Leading Change:

HOW TO MOVE PEOPLE FROM HERE TO THERE

1. Change Emotions
There is no change without discomfort.

There is no change without comfort.

Homophyly------------------ Hetrophyly

Each new stewardship step is mix of emotions

2. Change Communication
…planting advance and change is often the result of effective communication.

…words are our most basic tool. Skillful use is a key ingredient to significant results.

…only your relationship, gracious communication and the work of the Spirit will overcome a fundamental resistance in most people.

3. Communication Barriers
Sender…………………………..………..Receiver

    1. Sender screens
        a. language
        b. experience
        c. environment
        d. presuppositions

    2. Receiver screens

          PRACTICE YOUR MESSAGE FIRST!
4. Making The Case:
    A Conversation Guide for Planters

Who are we, our mission, our vision?
Why are we necessary?
What is our track record?
What is the need or opportunity?
What is our plan?
What is the cost?
Will you consider becoming a partner?
MAKING THE CASE FOR SUPPORT
Failure to “make the case” for a stewardship decision is the first failure of a new church plant.

A case statement should have an “elevator” version and a “lunch” version. Clear, concise and passionate.

A case statement should be memorized and be in an attractive document format.
Developing your case statement…
A blend of heart and head impact
