The Relationship Engine of Conflict and the Heat of Competition

Scripture references: James 4:1-3; Matt. 18:7-9

1.         The power of the conflict engine is the power to build stronger relationships and transform ministry team dysfunction to a level that honors and glorifies Jesus Christ.

2.         Conflict begins with an unmet desire. When a perceived wrong occurs, the unmet desire triggers an offense toward any person or thing that prevents the desire from being met. James 4:1-3

3.         When we take offense, we elevate our self-interest and assume a position of judgment toward the one who offended us - we think we have a "right” to be offended.

4.          Offense is like a trap - we choose to take the bait - no one forces us to do so.

5.          Jesus taught about the importance of not staying offended. Matt. 18:7-9

6.          It is possible to address a wrong without taking offense - respect others, handle your authority responsibly, and maintain a mindset focused on Jesus Christ.

7.          Look for opportunities to transform ministry team dynamics when conflict occurs - the Lord is always at work. There is no need to fear conflict when we rely relentlessly on Jesus Christ. He will glorify His name through you and use you to bring blessing to those in conflict with you.
