Reading: DNA History
Key Historical Points
Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins used x-ray diffraction photographs to analyze the structure of DNA.
Watson and Crick were building a model of DNA at the same time and obtained Franklin’s results and discovered the double helix, and published that in 1950.
Chargaff’s Rule: states that DNA from any cell of all organisms should have a 1:1 ratio (base Pair Rule) of pyrimidine and purine bases and, more specifically, that the amount of guanine is equal to cytosine and the amount of adenine is equal to thymine.
