The Rise of Affluence

"… give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God." (Proverbs 30:8-9)

Freedom

Choice

Self-absorbed culture

ADD culture

"When he (Jesus) saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." (Matthew 9:36)

Many conflicting voices

"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isaiah 30:21)

Breakdown of family culture

"Since my youth, God, you have taught me, and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds. Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come." (Psalm 71:17-19)

Breakdown of discipline culture

Discipline is the act of delaying gratification in the hopes of a better future reward.

The need for coaching

The coach takes the place of the supportive culture of family, friends, and church that used to help a person succeed in doing what they really want to do.
