The “I am not the center” Attitude

The problems with
self-centered kids

Selfish

2 Timothy 3:2-4 ESV For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God …

Selfish children do not care who they hurt to get what they want.

Self-absorbed children do not mean to hurt anybody as they go after what they want; they just are so self-absorbed that they have no idea that they are hurting others to go after what they want.

How do kids learn
humility?

Be an example

Deuteronomy 6:8-9 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
