What is the Role of God in Sexual Health? 

Christians believe that the Bible is the best source of insight into every area of life, including our sexual identity and sexual practice. Studying the Bible welcomes God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - into human experience and teaches us how to flourish.

2 Timothy 3:16-17    God has breathed life into all of Scripture. It is useful for teaching us what is true. It is useful for correcting our mistakes. It is useful for making our lives whole again. It is useful for training us to do what is right.  By using Scripture, a man of God can be completely prepared to do every good thing.

2. Sexuality was created good, however, our sexuality is now fallen in sin. Since sexuality is hardwired in us, we need to deal with our fallen desires without getting negative on sexuality. 

1 Peter 2:11     Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. ¹² Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

3. Healing conversations (therapy) welcome God and the Bible’s counsel. Past trauma is explored to discover the way of forgiveness, healing, and new ways of thinking and experience. The role of personal responsibility is central. The client must want the Christian and Biblical way.  

James 3:13-17     Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. ¹⁴ But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. ¹⁵ Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. ¹⁶ For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. 4. The role of officiant is emphasized.  Confession, sincere vows and prayers are welcomed. The minister opens each session with prayer. The minister helps give expression to confession and making amends. The minister helps people express vows of faithfulness and new direction. The minister helps develop the practice of prayer to invite God to bring healing. Every session closes with prayer. 

James 5:16   Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

5. Acknowledge your own brokenness as you minister. God gives broken people a redemptive voice because he has saved us and is sanctifying us. 

2 Corinthians 4:7     But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

6. Healthy boundaries are observed and short-time ministry is preferred. Gentleness and humility are the ministry postures. Avoid being the answer-person. Share mini-courses, web links, and other resources. Teach discernment.

Galatians 6:1    Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. ³ If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. ⁴ Each one should test his own actions.
