Victory as a Minister over Sexual Landmines

Henry Reyenga

Recognize that You will Struggle in this Area

1 Corinthians 10:12   So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!

You are responsible for not allowing others to stumble.

1 Corinthians 10:31     So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God— 33 even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.

Romans 14:21   It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

Understand the Theology

Salvation and Sanctification

Ephesians 2:8   For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

1 Thessalonians 5:23     May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Meeting Boundaries

Do not meet with someone of the opposite sex alone or in ways that create blurred boundaries.

Maintain good boundaries in social media, meta, texting, or other.

1 Timothy 5:1-2    Do not rebuke an older man harshly, but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters, with absolute purity

Private Sexual Boundaries

Address any sexual addiction habits with enthusiastic surrender to God including gentleness, conviction, and communication. Take joy in keeping the fallen dopamine response cycle at bay.

Galatians 6:1    Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

Community Accountability

Join others in supporting each other in our mutual boundary journey without shame and in victory.

Hebrews 10:25   Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
