Experience Worksheet

We are shaped, in part, by our experiences. God can use our experiences to shape and mold us for ministry. We are going to look at three kinds of experiences: What have you been saved from? What have you been saved to? What general life experiences have you had?

1.     Saved from what?

a)    From what in your life has Jesus saved you or at least partially saved you? (Be specific)

i.e., marriage, addictions (alcohol, drugs, food, work, sex, porn, swearing, spending money), anger, depression, broken relationships, occult, stealing, lying, selfishness, self-absorbed, procrastination, laziness, negative attitude, gossip, slander, pride, etc.)

b)   And where in your life is Jesus not Lord? (Be specific)

i.e., money, sex, schedule (time), marriage, family, friends, work, recreation, words, ambitions, dreams, goals, emotions, attitudes, worldview, desires, etc.)

c)    What guilt in your life has Jesus paid the price on the cross?  (Be specific. Don’t just write down “all of it.”)

d)    What hurt did Jesus take away in your life?

e)    What things weighing you down (burdens) has Jesus lifted?

f)     What discouragements has Jesus transformed into courage?

g)    What suffering has Jesus alleviated in your life?

How might you turn what Jesus has saved you from into a ministry?

2 Corinthians 5:17-19 (NIV) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come:  The old has gone, the new is here!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:  that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

2.   Saved to?

a)    What has Jesus saved you to?

i.e. He may have saved you so that you could start a ministry, be in a ministry, effectively serve in your workplace, raise a Christian family, plant a church, lead a Bible study, be a life coach, or be in a music ministry, etc.

3.   General experiences?

a)    What general experiences have you had?

i.e., workplace, family, marriage, church, street, sports, hobbles, free time, travel, leadership, business, miracles, etc.

b)   How might these experiences help you in ministry?
