The Magnificat 

Luke 1:46-47

 

46) Καὶ εἶπεν Μαριάμ· Μεγαλύνει ἡψυχή μου τὸν κύριον,


46) Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord.

7) καὶ ἠγαλλίασεν τὸ πνεῦμα μουἐπὶ τῷ θεῷ τῷ σωτῆρι μου,


47) My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,

 

What priority do you give to your soul?

24) Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

 

What priority do you give to your soul?

ὃς γὰρ ἐὰν θέλῃ τὴν ψυχὴναὐτοῦ σῶσαι ἀπολέσει αὐτήν· ὃς δ’ἂν ἀπολέσῃ τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦἕνεκεν ἐμοῦ εὑρήσει αὐτήν·


25) For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it.


26) τί γὰρ ὠφεληθήσεται ἄνθρωποςἐὰν τὸν κόσμον ὅλον κερδήσῃ τὴνδὲ ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ζημιωθῇ; ἢ τίδώσει ἄνθρωπος ἀντάλλαγμα τῆςψυχῆς αὐτοῦ;


26) For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life?

 

ψυχή

ψυχή from ψύχω; Breath or Soul, i.e., abstractly or concretely, thus distinguished on the one hand from πνεῦμα, which is the spiritual,  and on the other from ζωή, which is biological or vitality, the body.

 

WE get the word Pschology from this word. 

 

Jesus and the Soul

Read John 10:1-17

 

11) Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ ποιμὴν ὁ καλός. ὁποιμὴν ὁ καλὸς τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦτίθησιν ὑπὲρ τῶν προβάτων·


11) I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

14) Ἐγὼ εἰμι ὁ ποιμὴν ὁ καλὸς καὶγινώσκω τὰ ἐμὰ καὶ γινώσκουσινμε τὰ ἐμά,


14) I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and I'm known by my own;


15) καθὼς γινώσκει με ὁ πατὴρκαγὼ γινώσκω τὸν πατέρα, καὶ τὴνψυχὴν μου τίθημι ὑπὲρ τῶνπροβάτων.


15) even as the Father knows me, and I know the Father. I lay down my life for the sheep.

17) Διὰ τοῦτο με ὁ πατὴρ ἀγαπᾷ ὅτιἐγὼ τίθημι τὴν ψυχήν μου, ἵναπάλιν λάβω αὐτήν.


17) Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.

 

The Power of the Word of God for healing the Soul

 

Hebrews. 4:12 For the word of God is living and xactive, ysharper than any ztwo-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow (Body), and adiscerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart (the Soul’s Religious Center)

 

Soul Centers in the New Testament

James 5:16-19 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.2 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit. My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

 

Take Aways

1. You are a soul with a body and a spirit. Your soul is your body. Your soul is spirit.

2. Your “I” or “wanter” heart is in your soul. Body and Spirit.

3. Your “wanter” of your soul steers your life.

4. Your soul has fallen, and your soul “wanter” wars with itself. Jesus saved your soul - Body, and Spirit Romans 7-8

5. Your soul is your essence, breath, and life; learn how to care for its future and health. Have the whole world but losing your soul is sad.
