1 Corinthians 7:1-5

Singleness And Marriage Are Both Good

Marriage is a boundary against sexual immorality.

1 Corinthians 7:1-2    Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.”   But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.

A Generosity Duty

An oxymoron

1 Corinthians 7:1-2

A husband should satisfy (generously give what is pledged) his wife’s sexual needs. And a wife should satisfy her husband’s sexual needs. (NIRV)

Sexual Equal Partners

Surrender of our sexual autonomy (this is a hard saying).

1 Corinthians 7:4

The wife’s body does not belong only to her. It also belongs to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong only to him. It also belongs to his wife.

Literal Greek

The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband has authority over her body. Likewise, the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife has authority over his body.

This is a surrender they made when they said their vows.

Sex Positive Marriage Is a Gift Pledged

Do Not withhold the gift you pledged.

1 Corinthians 7:5  Do not deprive each other (Defraud ye not one the other, KJV) or (ungenerously withhold what is pledged) except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Apo-Fono: Consent

Sex Positive Marriage Is a Gift Pledged

Defraud ye not one the other (KJV)…

There is cheating of omission or commission.

A sin of commission is taking action we should not. This can be in deed, thought, or something we say. Conversely, a sin of omission is when we don't take action we should.

Common Marriage Sins of Omission

Cheating such as:

Omission - Commission Cycle

Withholding marital sexual intimacy often contributes to the search for other sexual intimacy, which creates new forms of omission.

Mutual Consented Discussions

1 Corinthians 7:5  Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

The desire of the “sex therapist” is “dialogues which bring therapy.”

Timely Manner

1 Corinthians 7:5   Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Retreat of Prayerful or Worshipful Healing

Retreat of prayerful ACT prayer for your marriage sex.

1 Corinthians 7:5   Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote (have a retreat or holiday together to talk and pray about your sexual needs, problems, hopes and dreams) yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Come Together Better

1 Corinthians 7:5   Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again (again be upon each other) so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

Stop the Common Trick of Satan

Satan knows that humans are broken in this area in some way.

1 Corinthians 7:5   Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote (have a Holiday together in prayer about your problems, hopes and dreams) yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
