📝 Worksheet 3.4: Naming Disordered Alignments Without Shame
📝 Worksheet 3.4: Naming Disordered Alignments Without Shame
Topic 3: Spiritual Fall — The Soul Missing God’s Mark
This worksheet helps students apply Reading 3.1, Reading 3.2, and Case Study 3.3 by learning how to name sin, disorder, hiding, blame, and resisted boundaries without falling into shame-based identity. It follows the locked Topic 3 structure for “Naming Disordered Alignments Without Shame.”
Purpose of This Worksheet
Spiritual growth requires truthful naming.
But truthful naming is not the same as shame.
Shame says:
“I am hopeless.”
“I must hide.”
“I am only my worst failure.”
“God is finished with me.”
“If people knew the truth, I would be rejected forever.”
The gospel says something different.
The gospel says:
“You have sinned, but you are not beyond grace.”
“You have missed the mark, but Christ calls you back.”
“You do not need to hide from God.”
“You can name what is disordered without making shame your identity.”
“In Christ, a new way is possible.”
This worksheet is not meant to crush you. It is meant to help you come into the light.
1. Begin with God’s Question: “Where Are You?”
After Adam and Eve sinned, God asked:
Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”
— Genesis 3:9, WEB
God was not confused. He was inviting Adam into truth.
Take a moment and answer honestly.
Reflection Prompt
Where are you spiritually right now?
I feel close to God in this area:
I feel distant from God in this area:
I may be hiding from God in this area:
One thing I may be afraid to name honestly is:
2. Identify a Disordered Alignment
A disordered alignment is an area where something in your life is no longer lined up with God’s design.
It may involve desire, speech, work, anger, fear, sexuality, money, pride, control, bitterness, image management, laziness, resentment, dishonesty, or spiritual avoidance.
Sin is not only “breaking a rule.” Sin is missing the mark of God’s design.
Reflection Prompt
Name one area where your life may be out of alignment with God.
This area is:
This has been showing up in my life through:
This affects my relationship with God by:
This affects other people by:
This affects my own soul by:
3. Notice the Genesis 3 Pattern
In Genesis 3, the fall includes several patterns:
Questioning God’s Word
Distrusting God’s goodness
Rejecting holy boundaries
Reaching for wisdom without obedience
Covering shame
Hiding from God
Blaming others
Avoiding responsibility
Check the Patterns You Notice
Which of these patterns may be present in your life right now?
___ I have been questioning whether God’s Word is truly good.
___ I have been treating God’s boundary as control instead of protection.
___ I have been reaching for something good in a disordered way.
___ I have been covering my struggle with image management.
___ I have been hiding from prayer, Scripture, worship, or Christian community.
___ I have been blaming someone else instead of taking responsibility.
___ I have been saying “this is just who I am” instead of asking God to restore me.
___ I have been calling freedom what may actually be bondage.
___ I have been resisting correction from someone who cares about me.
___ I have been avoiding one faithful next step.
Short Answer
The pattern I most need to face is:
4. Separate Conviction from Condemnation
Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit and leads to repentance, truth, grace, and restoration.
Condemnation comes from the enemy and leads to despair, hiding, shame, and isolation.
Complete the Contrast
The condemning thought I have been hearing is:
A more truthful gospel statement would be:
Example:
Condemning thought: “I have failed too badly to grow spiritually.”
Gospel truth: “I have sinned, but Christ calls me into repentance, mercy, and a new path.”
Now write your own.
Condemning thought:
Gospel truth:
5. Name the Boundary You Need to Receive as a Gift
Derrick’s case study showed how a person can treat boundaries as control instead of love.
God’s boundaries are not against life. They protect life.
Reflection Prompt
One holy boundary I have resisted is:
I have resisted this boundary because:
If I received this boundary as a gift, it might protect:
One practical way I can honor this boundary this week is:
6. Move from Blame to Responsibility
Blame says, “This is not really mine to face.”
Responsibility says, “Other factors may matter, but I still need to respond faithfully before God.”
Reflection Prompt
One person, circumstance, pressure, or wound I have been tempted to blame is:
That factor may be real because:
But my faithful responsibility before God is:
One sentence of honest confession I can pray is:
7. Whole-Person Reflection
Because you are an embodied soul, disorder may show up in many areas of life.
Mark the Areas Affected

The area I have ignored too long is:
8. One Faithful Step Toward the Light
Spiritual growth often begins with one honest step.
Not everything changes in one day. But hiding can stop today.
Choose One Step
This week, I will:
___ Pray honestly about this area.
___ Read Genesis 3 slowly and ask God, “Where am I hiding?”
___ Confess this to God without excuse.
___ Talk with a trusted Christian mentor, pastor, spouse, or mature friend.
___ Apologize to someone I have harmed.
___ Stop one hidden behavior.
___ Rebuild one holy boundary.
___ Ask for accountability.
___ Seek pastoral care or counseling if needed.
___ Return to worship or Christian community.
___ Take another specific step: _______________________________
My One Faithful Step Is:
I will take this step by this date:
The person who can support me is:
9. Ministry Readiness Reflection
As a future Christian leader, chaplain, minister, mentor, coach, volunteer, or Soul Center leader, you will meet people who are hiding, blaming, ashamed, or resisting holy boundaries.
You must learn to speak truth without crushing people.
Practice Response
Imagine someone says:
“I know I’m not living right, but I feel too ashamed to talk about it. I think God must be tired of me.”
Write a short response that includes:
Compassion
Truth
Hope
One next step
My response would be:
10. Closing Prayer
Lord God,
You see where I am hiding.
You know where I have missed your mark.
You know the places where I have blamed, covered, resisted, or feared the truth.
Thank you that your conviction is not condemnation.
Thank you that your boundaries are gifts.
Thank you that Jesus Christ meets sinners with truth and grace.
Help me name what is disordered without making shame my identity.
Bring my whole embodied soul back into alignment with you.
Give me courage to take one faithful step into the light.
Amen.
