🎥 Video 12A Transcript: What Happens When You Die?

Hi, I am Haley, a Christian Leaders Institute presenter.

In this final topic, we turn toward spiritual destiny. Spiritual growth does not end with better habits, stronger relationships, clearer calling, or more faithful service. Spiritual growth points us toward our eternal hope in Jesus Christ.

One of the most honest questions people ask is this: What happens when you die?

For many people, death brings fear. It raises questions about loss, judgment, separation, unfinished work, and the unknown. Some people avoid the topic completely. Others think about it constantly. Some have stood beside a hospital bed, a hospice room, or a graveside and wondered, “Where is my loved one now?”

Christian hope begins with Jesus Christ.

The Bible does not treat death as natural in the sense of being God’s original design. Death entered through sin. Death is an enemy. Death hurts because human beings were created for life, communion with God, embodied existence, and love.

But death is not stronger than Christ.

For the believer, death does not mean abandonment. Paul speaks of being “with Christ.” Jesus told the repentant thief on the cross, “Today you will be with me in Paradise.” The Christian who dies in the Lord is not lost, erased, or forgotten. The believer belongs to Christ in life and in death.

This matters deeply for spiritual growth.

If we believe death is the end, we may live in fear, denial, or desperation. If we believe death is only escape from the body, we may misunderstand God’s design. But if we believe that Christ holds us beyond death and will raise us in glory, then we can live with courage, tenderness, and hope.

From the Organic Human perspective, we remember this: God created us as embodied souls. Our bodies matter. Our relationships matter. Our work matters. Our tears matter. Our death matters. And our future resurrection matters.

Christian hope is not simply floating away forever from creation. It is being with Christ after death and awaiting the final resurrection, when God will make all things new.

So when Christians grieve, we do not pretend death is painless. We lament. We cry. We remember. We comfort one another.

But we do not grieve as those who have no hope.

Spiritual destiny teaches us to live today with eternity in view. We belong to Christ. We are held by Christ. And because Christ is risen, death will not have the final word.
