OverviewThis class explores key principles for handling finances and for starting, managing, and marketing a sustainable enterprise. It may be especially helpful for bi-vocational leaders who minister while earning income by other means.
This class is inspired by the Apostle Paul. He believed that pastors deserved to be paid, but he himself ministered without payment and earned his income in business. Paul is a model for many bi-vocational leaders. He wrote, "If I preach voluntarily, I have a reward; if not voluntarily, I am simply discharging the trust committed to me. What then is my reward? Just this: that in preaching the gospel I may offer it free of charge, and so not make use of my rights in preaching it" (1 Corinthians 9:17-18). You may be seeking to be like Paul and minister free of charge. This class will help prepare you for a sustainable enterprise.
Outcomes:
1. Learn the basics of starting a business/enterprise endeavor
2. Understand concepts of finance and money management for enterprises
3. Learn basics of managing and marketing an enterprise
Assignments
1. Read all online reading materials.
2. Watch online video lectures for each unit.
3. Join the Christian Leaders Network. If you are not on the network, join now by clicking here
4. Take the online quiz for each unit. You will have 60 minutes to answer 20 multiple-choice questions for each quiz. Once a quiz has started, you must finish it, and you can't retake it. So be ready ahead of time. While taking the quiz, you may use your notes and refer to articles and other materials.
a. If your computer crashes or you lose your internet connection during a quiz attempt, you might get a zero on a quiz. If that happens, contact Help Desk (helpdesk@christianleaders.net), explain the problem, and ask Help Desk to delete the failed quiz attempt so that you can take the quiz again. However, if you simply don't do well on a quiz because you didn't know many answers, don't ask to take the quiz again; you won't be allowed.
b. Tips for taking quizzes: Print out the readings for each unit, or save them in a folder on your computer. If you don't know a quiz answer, you can refer back to an article or to your notes. First, answer all the questions you know. Then try to look up answers to questions you don't know. When you have entered an answer for every question, submit the quiz for grading before the 60-minute limit. If you have studied all videos and all readings ahead of time, you probably can answer most of the questions in just a few minutes and spend the remaining time looking up answers that you don't know. However, if you have not studied ahead of time, 60 minutes won't be enough time to look up answers to all the questions you don't know.Grading Scale
A 95-100% A- 90-94% B+ 87-89% B 83-86% B- 80-82%
C+ 77-79% C 73-76% C- 70-72% D+ 67-69% D 63-66% D- 60-62% F 0-59%

Complete all assignments before the final deadline, or you will be automatically withdrawn from the course and all coursework will be removed.
